Popular types of wine?

Gen, on February 19, 2019 at 1:49 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 17
We’re allowed to choose 2 reds and 2 whites. The options are:

Red:
Cabernet
Merlot
Pinot Noir

White:
Sauvignon Blanc
Chardonnay
Pinot Grigio
Riesling

Also, the Cabernet, Merlot, and sauvignon blanc are all the same brand. I was thinking maybe we shouldn’t do both the Cabernet and merlot because then both reds would be from the same brand? Not sure if that matters though.

Personally I am a Cabernet & Sauvignon blanc person and my FH loves Riesling but I feel like those may not be the most popular among our guests (and we probably won’t have more than 1 glass anyway).

What types of wines did/would you choose?

I think the more popular and well rounded wines are:

    Red-

    Cabernet & Merlot

    White-

    Pinot Grigio & Chardonnay

Will you include a sweet option: blush or moscato?

I don't know much about red wine because I don't like it, but for white wines, I would have one on each side of the spectrum. One sweeter, like a Riesling, and one drier, like a Chardonnay.

I'm a Merlot & Chardonnay fan, but it depends on what I'm eating too. Could you match them with your menu?

    Thank you!

I would like to have a sweeter option but we are just choosing from the venue’s house wines... if we were to do something that’s not on this list and break from their house wines it would increase the bar price drastically! Smiley sad

I can’t believe I didn’t think of matching it with the food hahaha, thank you for the suggestion 😂 I still have to talk to FH about what food we are choosing so once I do that maybe we’ll base the wine decision on that. Thanks!

If you choose Cabernet (red) and Chardonnay (white), those choices will take care of most guests and you can have more fun with the other options: why not Pinot Noir (lighter red & different) & Sav Blanc (lighter & fruity compared to the smooth and more buttery Chardonnay). Both of those lighter wines will be great for your summer wedding too!

We did cab and chardonnay and then a white zin for a sweet option. I love Riesling but agree that its not the most popular.

Oh and I wouldnt worry about the brand too much. We actually did the opposite and picked wines that would all be the same brand - we're doing beer and wine only and figured it would be simpler to have it consistent.

For reds I would recommend the Cab and Merlot b/c they seem to be more popular people. I LOVE a good Pinot Noir, but I think it's pretty taste specific.

Wine nerd here: I would choose the cab for your heavy red drinkers and the Pinot for the lighter red drinkers. For whites definitely the Chardonnay, and then either the Pinot Grigio or the Riesling. Both of those are lighter whereas chard is heavier. If you’re having liquor along with beer/wine you won’t have to worry so much about having a sweet option since people can get their sweet fix with rum and OJ or vodka cranberry. If not, the Riesling May be a better pick for the sweet drinkers.

We did : Cabernet and Pinot Noir for reds
and Chardonnay & Sauvignon Blanc for whites. It seemed to cover most tastes. The Cabernet & Chardonnay were by far the best sellers among our crowd

Yes I was thinking Cabernet and Chardonnay were probably the most popular but I wasn’t sure, thanks for confirming! We will probably do those 2 and then choose the others based on what pairs best with the food we choose

Red: Pinot Noir (light-bodied) and Cabernet (full-bodied)

White: Riesling (sweet) and Chardonnay (Dry)
