Popsicles and Ice Cream

Kathrine, on May 24, 2018 at 12:46 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 19
My fiance and I are not big dessert eaters. Since our wedding will be in the middle of July. We are considering popsicles or ice cream in leiu of cake. Has anyone done this? How did it go?

We brought in a mobile ice cream cart from a local creamery, but that was in addition to our wedding cake. The ice cream was a big hit, but I don't know that I'd have that as your only dessert.

I love that idea! I have heard of ice cream sundae stations, or milkshake stations being done (not sure about in lieu of cake though).

We did a cake but we also did old school ice cream bars at the end of the night. Think choco-tacos, chocolate eclairs, drumsticks, ice cream sandwiches, etc. They went over so well, everyone was obsessed and took a bunch back to their hotel rooms. Just make sure you have proper refrigeration. Our venue had a frozen treat cart they were all in.

Your caterer could probably help with this or you could hire a food truck!

I love this idea! I am not a big cake person so I have actually never eaten the cake at any wedding I have been too. My FH and his daughter love cakes so we opted for cake for our wedding, but other than the cutting I won't be having any. I hope the ice cream and popsicle work out for you because they are sure to be a hit!

I haven't seen it done but we are looking into a portable ice cream "truck" that comes to your venue and serves ice cream!

This sounds like fun! You could even make a little ice cream cake so you could have something to cut! I'm not a big Popsicles person, myself; so I'd say you could offer a small dessert table with some options for people who eat non-ice cream desserts (and whomever is lactose intolerant!). I've seen ice cream trucks, milkshake bars (I'd indulge in that one!), ice cream sundae bars...you name it.

I would maybe provide one more type of dessert that's a little more substantial, like cookies or cake. Just because you and FI don't like something doesn't mean that your guests don't.

We are having shave ice at our wedding but that’s not in lieu of wedding cake. It will be available at a cart around the same time as the cake being served. I also don’t know how I’d feel about just ice cream or pops.

We are renting an ice cream truck for cocktail hour. During our reception, we will have normal cake though.

Were doing a cake as well as a Sunday bar..our date is in July as well.. I personally wouldn't do just icecream, because people kind of expect a cake.. also, just because my FH and I don't drink, does not mean we won't still supply our guests with an open bar Smiley smile

I'm not a big cake person either but we are having it as I know many guests enjoy it regardless of what I enjoy.

In addition to the cake, we're doing an ice cream sundae bar. It's nice to have both options.

I did not do it, but I would love to be a guest at a wedding that had ice cream and Popsicle! Very nice idea!

We are having Ritas Italian Ice come to our cocktail hour! That’s where we met and both of us would prefer ice/ice cream over cake

I can't tell you how it's gone because our wedding is next year but we're doing an ice cream buffet from our favorite local ice cream parlor instead of cake! It's one of the things I'm most excited about Smiley smile

Yes! We are having an ice cream truck come to the wedding. You walk up and pick what you want, they sell more gourmet ice cream...it's all local and handmade. Mmmm...

I think we are also doing a cake, a few people threw a fit and my moms best friend is a cake baker. It's going to be free so we figured why not?

Ice cream is pretty substantial in my opinion.
