Popcorn Table instead of Candy Table?

Natalie, on February 19, 2011 at 11:33 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

My FH does not want to do a candy table since we are having a dessert table and a cake. I have been searching for wedding favors and I have only found one that I kind of liked: Lotto scratch off ticket with a penny from the year you are getting married and a cute little saying. I have been checking on what scratch offs are available and I don't like any of them.

So I had a thought yesterday of instead of a candy bar what about a popcorn bar. We have a huge popcorn company local to us where we can get bags of popcorn in different flavors. I mentioned the idea to my FH and he said that it sounds like something you would see at a carnival not a wedding. Am I crazy to think this would be a good idea?

I just went to a very formal wedding and they had a popcorn bar. We loved it! It was unique, delicious and who doesn't love popcorn?

Popcorn is a fun idea, but it's messy. You'll end up with crushed up popcorn all over the floor. Favors can be anything you want them to be~ what do you and your fiance like? I'm planning on making a spice rub because we love to cook & then putting it in individual jars with cute tags. A friend of mine went to Pier 1 and found adorable champagne glasses on clearance so she bought them all up and we used them for the toast and they became our favor. You're definitely thinking creatively so keep it up and I'm sure you'll stumble across a genius favor.

I agree with Kimberly. I would do popcorn, but put them in closed containers or it will get way too messy. But that is a very good idea!!

I think it's an ADORABLE idea!! Maybe some pictures of your idea would help your FH understand where you're coming from (maybe he's picturing a giant mobile vat of popcorn).

I actually love this idea. I'm sorry but I may have to borrow it for my son's Birthday Party or Movie Night Parties (it's just that creative of an idea, I'm sorry for copying your idea). Rosie, thanks for posting pictures so we can see how Popcorn Buffets have been done up.

I just read about coffee (beans) and (loose leaf) tea buffets as favors. I'd be more into that than different flavors of popcorn, but you know your guests better than I do. I don't think that it's necessarily a carnival vibe. Does your FH have better ideas? (I hate it when my FH nixes my ideas, but has none of his own to offer up...)

I love the idea and am doing something similar. We also have a local popcorn place that has over 20 varieties. We are making up individual bags and letting guests choose the flavor they like best. I wouldn't worry about mess since a candy bar would be just as messy and everybody has those.

Another idea though if you do have different bags and letting your guests separate the flavors, you may want to have something if they take it back with them like handled bags, or some kind of bag they can easily carry it in. Just an idea though.

I personally do not like popcorn, so does FH and most of our friends so this idea would never work for us but I'm sure u know your guests and if you're sûre they'll like it, go for it.

I think it sounds like a great idea! Way more fun than a candy bar because you can do sweet and savory flavors.

Does anyone have samples of wording for a sign at the bar? I am having a popcorn bar. I want guests to enjoy it during the reception and take a bag to go for their favor. I'd like the sign to let everyone know that in a simple and cute manner.
