Popcorn bar?

Emma, on January 17, 2020 at 1:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
Due to family, we are unable to have alcohol at the wedding. We are still doing a social hour so that we are able to get photos done. We were think of doing a type of food bar. Our venue manager suggested a popcorn bar, she had one at her wedding. We are young and definitely seems like something we would do lol. We would have plain popcorn with different seasoning in salt shakers, spray butter, candy, and then some specialty popcorn. Along with that we would have sodas during social hour. Would you be turned off by this idea or would you enjoy it?

I think that it is a unique and fun idea! I would also offer something else (like veggies and fruit) for guests who don't eat popcorn or want something else to munch on while the social hour goes on! Smiley smile

I think it’s a fun idea, but like PP suggested, I would also offer other apps.

My close friend did that at his dry wedding! I would say make sure you have ample non alcoholic drinks and other apps available at that time because he didn’t and we were dying of thirst after eating popcorn because that’s all there was and we were starving

I'd offer one or two more filling appetizers too, and some tea or flavored water as well.

What other apps would you suggest? I was thinking if we needed more, fruit, cheese&cracker, and vegetables trays. We are going to be slowly stocking up of sodas throughout the year to make sure we have enough. For one hour how many cans would you suggest per person, I was think 2 soda cans and one water bottle per person would be enough

That sounds fun! Popcorn isn’t very filling at all though so I agree with having more things too. Fruit and vegetable trays and cheese and crackers sounds perfect

Yes that should be fine for soda but I would say a lot more water. Personally, Popcorn makes me suuuuper thirsty. just one hour right? Whatever apps you and your guests would like!

I'd also think about how the popcorn bar fits with whatever meal you are planning after this time period. If you're having a formal sit-down dinner, then I probably wouldn't want to eat much popcorn before that. If the meal is more like casual picnic food, then maybe I'd eat popcorn. If you're have a heavy, potentially salty meal, like Mexican food or BBQ, I am not going to want salty popcorn before that. At a movie, I love popcorn, and probably eat too much in a sitting, but I think it's kind of an usual appetizer that may or may not fit well with whatever follows it. I've seen people on this forum talk about a late-night snack popcorn bar, and that makes more sense to me after people having been drinking. It's a personal choice, but it wouldn't necessarily be my choice.

MOB So Cal makes an excellent point. If popcorn does for your menu, I’d still offer at least 1-2 appetizers (protein bites—meatballs, grilled shrimp, etc). Or a small meat & cheese platter could work too.

That popcorn bar does sound yummy!

Oh! Someone mention options other than soda. Yes please. Too much sugar. A refreshing water drink (water with orange & cucumber), maybe an orange iced tea option.

I love the idea, it seems fun but I would also suggest you should maybe include some mocktails and appetizers
