Popcorn bar and covid

Emma, on August 25, 2020 at 5:48 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 20
UGH!
So I was just thinking about this and now I don’t know what to do!
So we were going to have popcorn bar with different flavors as our cocktail hour appetizer. Now I don’t know what to do because I’m thinking about how people would be touching the same scoops and everything. Part of me is think to scrap popcorn all together but I don’t know what I’d switch it with. What do you think?

Hi Emma, I had similar issue as we wanted a cookie and candy buffet but obviously with Covid, we had to pivot. We did two individually wrapped candies at each place setting and did a smaller cookie table all individually wrapped with labels of the kind of cookie was inside. Turned out great!! Hope this helps!!!

Definitely don't share scoops. Can the flavors be prepackaged and labeled so guests can grab what they like?

I would recommend having the popcorn prepackaged

Prepackaged would be a cute option!

Not sure what sort of resources you have available, but it could also be served by staff. (We were going to have a s'mores bar but have since scrapped it - if we had proceeded, venue staff would've served it.)

I suggest doing a bunch of small bags of prepackaged popcorn flavors! This way, guests can grab a few different varieties, as opposed to grabbing one bigger bag of just one flavor.

We were going to do a popcorn (and Halloween candy) bar as well. Instead we are putting prepackaged bags in each of our guest bags (mask, hand sanitizer, Halloween candy and popcorn) at each seat.

I think prepackaged and preflavored and labeled is a great solution! If your mind is set on it, don't give up yet!!

Prepackaged popcorn or have someone serve it so there’s not multiple people touching scoops.

Can you have it wrapped individually? I’m sure it will be more expensive but at least you won’t have to worry about everyone touching the same things

I would pre-package and label them. Find some mini popcorn boxes, or cute bags you can personalize!

We did a s’mores bar and we had pre-wrapped graham crackers and marshmallows, along with individually wrapped snack size chocolate bars. I also had wet naps available on the table too. I think if you do individual packs of different flavors, the popcorn bar could be really cute!

Im having gloves and sanitizer at the food table with a sign to use a glove for food and drinks. A trash can will be at the end of table to throw away gloves

Part of me was thinking of doing this because we won’t be able to afford it if we do the individual bags.

I would just have hand sanitizer on the table for guest to use before they touch scoops.

Our problem is that the popcorn bar was going to be the only food for our cocktail hour. We were going to have different sweet and salty popcorn along with some candy. It would be way more to do them individually

That’s what FH suggested. Everyone will already have mask too

I know this wasn't the original intention of your post, but I might recommend having an additional (more filling) appetizer at your cocktail hour if there will be alcohol involved. Popcorn is awesome and I'm sure the guests will love it, but that would be my unsolicited advice...But if you're having a dry wedding then I don't necessarily think you'd need to

I’ve had a few people on here tell me that, but I talked to our venue and my guest and all of them are down for it.

Though we are now talking about just scraping the popcorn bar and figuring something else out. I’ll have to wait till I get our numbers Monday and then see what it would cost for our caterer to cover the cocktail hour instead

You could also buy small white bags at Amazon with twisty ties attached and a window to show contents, then fill the bags yourself the day before the wedding. Each bag will fit about two cups. Economical way to do popcorn while being safe during covid.
