Pool party reception?

The ceremony would be informal and then we would want a band playing by the pool. Food would also be informal - there would be some high tables and then tables for everyone to sit, passed apps and family or buffet style food, possibly a few food stations.

I’m a little worried no one will want to go in the pool, my fiancé is positive people will respond to the good time and go in.
The only issue is we are going to have to do this at a hotel with a pool. I’m sure they aren’t going to let us rent out the pool because there will be other hotel guests. I did find a hotel with multiple pools and was thinking maybe they would let us rent one, but it’s doubtful.
Has anyone had a pool party reception? And at a hotel? What was your experience with this?

I’m planning a summer wedding in Florida (we live here already) and am considering this. It’s going to still be quite formal as that’s what my fiancé prefers (ceremony at a local Historic lighthouse) but the reception is going to morph into a cocktail and dessert party. I’m aiming for people to get a glimpse of “us.” He’s very formal, has quite an impressive family and traditions to uphold but still very fun and I have very little family, total opposite-not formal at all and live for experiences. As a couple, we’re adventurous, fun and thrill seeking and blend the two pretty well. We’re doing a micro wedding. I’m planning our reception at the hotel restaurant where all guests will be able to order off the full menu (more enjoyable experience for them and accommodating) and then the second part of the reception will be the toast and cake at the pool - where we’ll have private cabanas rented and a portion of the deck for our party. Resort style hotels do parties poolside all the time so it’s not a “liability” thing like some are saying. And getting drunk at a wedding and having a pool involved - two things, they’re adults with their own judgment and have you all never been to a resort or a cruise? Alcohol and pools are essentially like pb&j. Or any day in Florida at any random house, beach or boat.

Go all out, have the time of your life! I know this is an old thread but it was disheartening to see so much negativity. I think post-covid, people have relaxed a lot. I’d be curious on feedback on this.
