Polish Wedding Traditions

SeattleBride, on August 3, 2015 at 12:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

I am thinking of adding some Polish flair to the wedding. I have looked some up and have found a few. I am not looking for anything that is too ceremonial or something that would take too much time, but rather incorporate into the events already occurring.

Money dance

Bread/salt/wine

and of course vodka.. lots and lots of vodka

Anyone Polish and adding some heritage into their wedding?

My FH is half polish (on his mom's side) but we're not planning on incorporating anything in the wedding. His mom mentioned a few things, but most of them had to do with money and we weren't comfortable with it.

Same here, Alyssa. I'm Polish, and the only wedding tradition (besides drinking, ha) that has been brought up to me is a dollar dance. Which, no.

Yeah the FH is not comfortable with doing the money dance or anything like that. I had to convince him a card box was ok to have.

I must confess, I somehow misread this as "Polish wedding tattoos" and was very confused for a minute.

I'm just curious, what made you want to look to Polish traditions?

Hey, I am having a 100% Polish wedding so if you have any questions - I can be your gal. Smiley winking

I haven't seen someone do the money dance...well, ever. I think that tradition is long gone. Some of our traditions include: blessing at my parents home before the ceremony with FH bringing flowers, traditional polish highlander group playing at my parents home/church/when people walk into the reception, our parents meeting us in front of the hall with the bread/vodka/salt, FH carrying me into the hall, leaving flowers for Mary in church while we pray to her, my dad making cytrynowka for the wedding, oczepiny at midnight, errr what else....krokiety & barszcz at midnight. Pretty sure there's a million more but because it's all I know then I don't know that it's not a tradition.

    Smiley tongue

The men gather in a circle, holding hands, around the bride (kidnapping her). Groom has to break into the circle and "rescue" her. But, this can become a free-for-all.
