Polaroid Station

Its_Rebby, on February 22, 2018 at 2:24 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 22
Hi everyone! I was wanting a photobooth for the wedding but so far all the ones I have found are $600+ which seems crazy to me. I was thinking about buying a Fujifilm Instax Mini for $50 and then just buying the film in bulk (I found 100 pictures worth of film for $67 on Etsy). The goal is for guests to take a selfie with the camera, have the picture print, and then they can use double sided tape to stick it in our guest book and write a note next to it. Has anyone else done this? Thoughts/Suggestions?

We're doing both! I found a local place that does a discount if you use the for a photobooth and photography. I'm really excited about the polaroid station. We're thinking a big scrapbook and pens and stuff so they can put it in and write whatever they want.

Awww I love that idea. Plus Instax are super fun to have at parties in general! Take it on the honeymoon too!

We are doing that for our “photo booth.” I also got props and a backdrop for $20.

Omg. Thats a great idea!!! Way cheaper than a photobooth and they always take another picture to keep.

I would buy a ton of extra film. This sounds really fun and guests will want some to keep in addition to putting one in the book.

I did this. We only had 16 guests with one camera. Depending on how many guests you have you might want to consider getting more than 1 camera. Make sure you buy extra film.

I really love this idea! I love photobooths and polaroid pictures, and I've been on the fence about doing this.

I second the idea of getting a lot of extra film. I have an instax and it's really easy to go through that film, especially if you have people who are not familiar with how the camera shoots! I definitely had a learning curve! Smiley xd

You have to think about who will reload the film, tell the guests to put the photos in a book, etc. It may be smart to calculate how much you will be spending on your DIY booth as well before you make your final decision. Props, background, film, and the camera can be expensive. I got a photobooth that will have an attendant at it the whole time for 500. I know it’s an investment but it will keep guests entertained during cocktail hour. I’m incorporating Polaroid photos with my guest book. I’ll have an aunt or friend stand as guests are seated to take their picture and have them write their well wishes beside it in an album Smiley smile

I'm doing the same!!! But I actually have the real deal Polaroid! (What!?) Haha. I'm looking forward to it! I just thought the idea was very cool so I can (when I'm older *much older*) and I have babies that are planning we can look back through all our wedding and show who came and they will actually see a face to the name. It'll be fun, good luck 😊

We're doing this, as well. Planning to put someone in charge of periodically monitoring it... Still looking for a second camera and film, though. Some of these new Polaroid cameras take small photos, and we'd like traditional size.

    Your backdrop is awesome!

Follow up question though- do you think it would be lame without a backdrop? Yours is great and I would LOVE one but I am really trying to eliminate as much cost as possible on this "photobooth project" and really don't want to take the time to create anything. Do you think it would work just as well without a backdrop?

I haven’t made it yet, but this is the one I am going to mimick, but I love any project so it’s a good idea for me! And no! My cousin also had one without a backdrop. They just had bigger empty picture frame and props people but on. It was still fun! Smiley smile

I love this thread!! We’re doing this with the Polaroid Snap Touch camera (it has a preview screen and the option to print or retake) and using Polaroid’s adhesive photo paper! I got a gold glitter backdrop for $20 on Etsy and a set of props for $25. My DOC will periodically check on it throughout the night.

I so want to do this! I got a Polaroid camera for Christmas a few years back and I love it! It’d be so much cooler than just signatures in a book.

Personally, I wouldn't. Only because we've owned two of those cameras, bought at two different times from two different stores. And both have had tons and tons of issues, and frequently print out nearly solid gray / blacked out photos.

If your guests are just the bit knowledgeable with technology (and especially if you have a lot of younger guests who have probably used or own a Polaroid), they will be smart enough to figure out how to use it as you intend it. Maybe include some instructions, or have your bridesmaids be the first to use it to sort of demo what you want with the photos going into the guestbook. I wouldn't worry about needing an attendant there to take pictures or show people how to use the camera.

I saw that at my cousin's wedding. It was fun. They had a flower wall and people took photos in front of it then printed the photos and put them with a note in a book. They had 2 cameras so no long lines.

We did our one photo booth/selfie starion. We had an iPad set up with a photo booth app. (We printed pics and sent them with our thank you cards). Film can get really expensive as you deal with People who don’t know how to use the camera and people who don’t like the first picture they take.

You can also do an inexpensive background with cheap sheer curtains and fairy lights. Get creative with props. Tons of templates online where you can make your own, Halloween clearance sales for large glasses, etc.
