Polaroid station instead of Photo Booth?

catobx, on April 7, 2018 at 12:32 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 3 16

Has anyone here done the Polaroid thing? We are already wavy over budget, and while I desperately wanted a picture booth (I think it is so fun), it is an extra $1k that we both just don't see as justifiable... So I have come up with a plan to buy a Polaroid instant camera, we are having our gorgeous floral wedding arches moved into the ceremony space so that can be a nice backdrop, and guests can take their own sleeves or have others take polaroid pics of them (asking them to take one but leave a pic for us for the guestbook). SO has anyone done this and what was the outcome? Good idea or no? Share pics if possible. Thanks!

Haven't don't it yet, but we plan on doing this as a "guestbook station". People will take selfies with the polaroid and then put them in our book with a message.

Polaroid film isn't the cheapest but it will cost you less then 1K for sure. You could also get a selfie stick and some props and set up a selfie station. Add a sign listing your wedding hashtag and you'll get to see your guests photos

I think if there is no monitor to the camera you going to get some weird photos. we were thinking of doing a selfie station or backdrop but then we just went with the photo booth. you don't really need a "selfie station" when you have a smart phone and long arm.

My friend did this for her wedding last month, it was really cute and fun! She assigned two people to the area to take pictures of everyone with their prop and the backdrop. Afterward we were able to place the Polaroid in a book and wrote a personalized note.

Groupon has great photo booth deals. We’re doing the guestbook photo station though.

My BIL did this at his wedding in February, it was a lot of fun, and everyone did it. One of the BM made a frame with handles, so we held that and asked others to take a photo of us.

My cousin did this for his wedding and it was really fun. They had 2 instant cameras and a flower wall so people took photos and put them in their guest book. It was cool and no lines.

I think this is a good alternative but you should have someone there to help with changing film when necessary. I’ve heard ppl hire high school kids for a reasonable price.

I've never been to a wedding where this is done but it sounds like a cute idea! I do agree that you should hire someone to take the pictures and change the film

I’m actually doing the same thing for same reason. I’m doing a DIY floral garden as Back drop and leaving Polaroid station at guest sign in. Snap a pic, write something sweet for us, and drop in the box. Plus they can have fun and we saved 900$+ doing it. Our wedding is on May 12th this year. Coming up !

That's what I'm doing too...it will be there instead of a traditional book, people can use it or not...plus then we can use the camera after the wedding (which my 11yr old daughter is VERY excited about lol)

This is also what I plan on doing too. We are having a small wedding (under 30 people) so a photo booth isn’t really necessary, but we wanted people to be able to take cute photos we can add to our guest book. Another plus is that with the instant camera people instantly have a memento they can bring home to remember your day.

    • There is actually a business in Seattle that does photo booth Polaroids! They don't even use the instax cameras!!! The photos are printed onto the film and then you also get a digital album for all the photos! Check out Hidden Picture Polaroids in Seattle I hired them for my daughter's sweet 16 a couple years ago and they did such a great job!!!!!

Hello! A great thread with awesome ideas. We are thinking of this too. How did it work out? I don't really want to pay someone to take a photo and change the film, but if its the most recommended I can think of a cousin or two who could use the $50ish. One of my bridesmaids said she would keep an eye out and I'll probably assign one or two other bridesmaids as well. We're thinking to get enough for each guest to print one and a polaroid that saves the photos on a SD card and a self timer with a tripod and my dad has a selfie stick we can put on the table as well. Which camera did you use?

    Polaroid is very expensive.

    I have 2 suggestions.

    1. check- groupon/living social I found for $350 for 4 hours in NY

    2. get a hashtag on snap chat or Instagram. Make the backdrop area maybe even 2 give options and have a Printed sign asking your guest to upload to #CBrynsgetshitched (whatever hashtag you get)
