Polaroid guest book?

Gen, on April 2, 2019 at 11:05 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11
I already have a Polaroid camera and I feel like it would be really cool to have people take pictures and put them in our guest book. But I’m concerned that either no one will do it, or that people will take too many pictures (and the film isn’t cheap).

For those of you who did a Polaroid guest book, how did it go? Are you glad you did it or was it a waste of time and money? Also how many packs of film do you think we would need (about 110-120 guests)

My friend did one last year and she had a designated person to run it just so it’d go a little faster and there would be no issue running out of paper. They also knew how to change the film. I think she had one spare film pack in case!

We did it and love it! We had 80 guests and went through about 7 rolls of film - 65 pictures I think we had. You won't need one picture per person, rather one per family. We waaayyy over estimated how much we'd need and definitely didn't get the value when we sold it on eBay. I'd recommend 2 pictures per household. Some will only take one, some may take more.

We didn't have an attendant at our table. I printed out a little card to sit with the camera that instructed iur guests how to change the film. We had extra rolls (cartridges) in a basket on the table. We also supplied an extra battery just in case. There were no problems at all!

If your looking for a beautiful book for your guests to put the photos in and sign, I recommend LiuMy on Etsy. Her books are hand sewn and she sews in pockets that fit the size photos you'll have. There are lines printed under the photo pockets for your guests to sign too. We worried about the pictures slipping out over time so when we went through it after the wedding, we just ran a quick strip of double-sided tape along the back of each picture and put it back in the book.

We are doing it too! It was kind of a last minute choice. I'm going to set it up near my other guest book which is a canvas for people to sign. I figured if people didn't use the film at the wedding, then I could use it on our honeymoon!

Very true, see I wouldn't have bought a Polaroid for this purpose alone but my FH got me one for Christmas anyway so I feel like it could be a fun thing to do! Just debating if it's worth the hassle to set it up and the $ for film if the photos even come out good.

A friend bought me one too, so I figured if I had it then why not! I ended up getting about 6 rolls of film for $35 on amazon (I also had a gift card so it helped). We are having around 100 people. If we run out, then oh well! It will be fun while it lasts.

I saw a Polaroid guest book at a wedding last year, and both of your fears were confirmed at that wedding.

The older people had no idea the cameras were there for the guest book (I suspect a lot of them didn't end up signing/weren't included in the guest book because of it). So if you plan to do this, definitely have a noticeable sign indicating what the stuff is there for and simple directions.

The younger people raided the photo station and took a bunch of Polaroids to take home with them.

The quality wasn't always there for the photos either. Some were too dark, too bright, etc.

Just things to consider Smiley smile

Yeah both of these things are what I'm afraid of haha. I would hope that our younger friends wouldn't be that rude and just take tons of photos for themselves and keep them but.... you never know lol. Thanks for sharing, it's good to know I'm not just overthinking and that it's possible that either or both of these things could happen!

Yay this makes me feel good! I am planning on doing this at my wedding next month and will have about 75 guests. I’m going to ask a couple of people to spread the word about the guest book during cocktail hour and to check in on it from time to time but I won’t have anyone there the entire time. Glad to hear yours went smoothly. I just purchased a couple extra packs so I think I have about 90 pictures. Hope mine goes as well as yours!

We had this book made at the wedding. We're madly happy, but... Yes, it took a lot of money.
