Mrs.strickland, on March 8, 2019 at 7:25 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 16
I was going to use a polaroid camera for my guest book and have them sign next to their picture in a book. what is your advice for using a polaroid camera for guest book? what’s the best brand? any advice? was it worth it?

I haven't personally but I've heard that you need to be prepared with extra film. People will see the cameras and take pictures of themselves as keep sakes. Can you do a photo booth? My cousin did one and it printed a copy for her and a copy for the guest and the guests all signed a copy of one they were in.

We did this with a Fuji Instax Mini. We purchased a guest book from LiuMy on Etsy set that out on a table with the camera and a basket of extra film. I also made up a little card to sit on the table with instructions on how to change the film and no one had any issues. My mom wrote up a cute poem to tell people what to do, which wasn't necessary but everyone knows and loves her poems and how much she likes to write so it was sweet.

We had about 80 people and went through maybe 6 rolls of film. I think a safe rule of thumb is 2-3 pictures per household (not person) and this will cover any extras that people take. You definitely don't want to way over purchase like I did because you'll never get your money back if you try to sell it. I sold my camera and 10 rolls of film for under $100.

I am doing a Polaroid photo-station, and I am using an Instax brand camera. I actually own a real vintage Polaroid one-step camera that I originally wanted to use, but after looking at the cost of film ($2 a shot!) decided against it. There are also very few places that physically sell Polaroid film, so you will most likely need to order it online if you go that route. The film is the real expensive part of this project, but I've found Instax to by far be the cheapest option. Amazon sells bulk packs of 60 shots for $35 at it is much more readily accessible than the Polaroid brand film for the older models. Also, if you are willing to look second hand, I was able to purchase our Instax 7S for $15 and our Instax mini 9 for $30 with a little digging! Good luck! My Polaroid photo-booth is one of the things I'm most excited about!

This is a cute idea. I would suggest a Polaroid that prints smaller pictures, so you can fit more onto whatever they will be attaching them to.

So just some advice, Poloroid cameras can be expensive as well as the film. I priced them and even a mini poloroid insta camera with a set of 60 film pictures was like 85 bucks on amazon. And to be honest you really need at least 2 so people aren't having to wait too long. We are doing this as well but we had to work it into our budget because I didn't expect them to be as expensive as that. We got the Fujifilm instamax mini 9 set that comes with film. We had to buy extra film for each camera as well. Total ended up being and extra 250$.

My husband and I did that and it flopped. You need to ask a couple of people to stand at the photo booth and manage it. Most of our guests didn’t take photos and sign. I think a lot of them didn’t even realize we had it. A few guests managed to take photos/sign and it was so nice!! You should really go for it just don’t make the mistake I did by not having someone responsible manage it lol. also buy cute photo props for them to use. Maybe go all out and put a backdrop. We used the fujifilm instax mini 9, it’s a great camera.

I bought 2 Polaroid Snaps for people to use and I'm slowing stocking up on film paper (add a package to my cart every time I order from Amazon). The good thing about those cameras is that there's a slot for a memory card so even if people take photos for souvenirs for themselves you can still see all the photos later. I'm going to put up a little sign with instructions but I also plan on having the bridal party learn the ins and outs of the cameras and how to load the paper so if anyone has any trouble they can flag down one of them.

I plan on doing the same! I just love the look of ‘em. But I’m still in the very early planning stage so I don’t have anything picked out yet.

Film is expensive but it’s a cute idea.
If you wanted a photo booth, some come with an attendant who keeps a copy of each picture and puts it in the book for you to take home.

Sure! This was her rough draft. I can't find a picture of the one we displayed. I had a poem on or in my lunch bag everyday growing up and she used to create her own greeting cards so it was fun to display at the wedding!

I was planning on doing this too and bought my daughter one of the instax mini cameras to see how the photos came out and I'm not very impressed. I think I might look into a small photo printer instead because the photos from the polaroid either don't come out or are very dark.

My friend did this and said it was the biggest waste of money at the wedding. They had a sign, but as signs are WAY overdone now, no one looked at it. She said she went through like 8 rolls of film for 110 guests but only got about 20 pictures in the guest book. It cost her $500ish. She ended up saying that she wished she spent the extra $250 and just had someone come in a do the photobooth for a few hours and she would have gotten more candid shots.
