Poem- Cheesy? Yay or nay?

MisRed, on March 29, 2016 at 11:20 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

I was thinking that near the ceremony area (the whole thing is happening all in one place) I'll have a sign that says "Please take a seat on either side and don't forget to find a place for that phone to hide" or "Choose a seat on either side of the aisle and don't forget to hide that phone for awhile." Or something very similar. I have no cares in the world if they are on their phones later. It's just that my family is huge and his is tiny, plus I don't want cell phones in our ceremony pics

Yay? Nay? Cheesy? Rude?

I know the little poem doesn't totally jive properly so if anyone else wants to take a stab at it, please do.

Meh. I don't think you need a poem. I would have one sign saying that it's an unplugged wedding and "ushers" telling guests to sit on either side.

Love this idea. I couldn't help you with a rhyme though :/

I don't like cutesy, rhyming wedding signs. At all. Especially the over done "pick a set not a side..."

Nothing would bring me greater joy than smashing and shredding your annoying electronic toy?

Don't bother with the poem. You can get a lot of unplugged signs that say something as simple as please keep phones and cameras off for the ceremony. Something something disruptive to professional photographer

I think the poem will confuse people....Unplugged is direct

Don't like it at all. "Put that phone away" is something a parent would say to a child. I think it is best when the officiant comes out a few minutes before the ceremony and asks everyone to turn off their phone. And...I hate signs. So overdone thanks to Pinterest.

Just order a nice unplugged ceremony sign on etsy the poem isn't needed.

I agree with a simple sign. Most people also know to just fill in seats. Our DOC (we didn't do ushers) just told people to fill in seats. It was fine.

    1. 'A while' is two words. Just letting you know in case you DO make this sign.

    2. No rhyming signs. or really no signs at all. For the most part people will sit where the want. They are a lot less concerned with sitting on the brides side vs. the grooms side than they were 20 years ago. Older guests are likely the exception.

Great! No sign, let the DOC and officiant do the talking. Thanks lady.

(I'm glad actually. One less thing to do and it does feel overdone, though I've never seen signs at a wedding.)

I think it's very cute, either the poem or a regular unplugged sign. I wasn't too worried about it but the other day I read an article about an photographer and his point of view and shots that were ruined by the phones.

I think a simple "Welcome to our unplugged ceremony" sign would work (you can make it cutesy if you want). We're forgoing a sign and just having our officiant make an announcement. FH even suggested that once we both get up there, we have our officiant make the announcement and give people a minute before the ceremony starts to take their photos before they put their phones away...I haven't decided how I feel about that yet lol

@futuremilitarywife That's the only poem idea I've liked so far.
