Pocket invitation assembly

dsta0125, on April 19, 2016 at 12:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

I just got my invitations and I am very excited. However, I got pocket invitations and I was not aware that I needed to assemble EVERYTHING! There are 8 pieces to each invitation that need to be assembled by hand (invitation, backgrounds, cards, etc.). Lots of gluing pieces of paper to other pieces of paper

I used a local card store to order the invitations and they never mentioned at any point that the invitations needed to be assembled. I made one invitation myself and it took about 3 minutes; the longest amount of time was lining it up so it was even. Once put together, it is beautiful, but it is a pain in the a** to have to assemble. I have to assemble 158 of them.

When there are pocket invitations, is it normal to have to assemble and glue EVERYTHING? I was prepared to insert the cards, but thought everything else would come assembled.

See image of what I need to glue together (5 pieces of paper). I then need to insert 3 pocket cards and the response envelope.

The only thing I glued (use the clear sticky things) was the invitation on to it. Why would you glue the other ones? They just slip right in. No need to make it more complicated.

Oh no! So sorry they did not inform you. Most albums have notations in them "customer assembly required" but it is often unnoticed. Did you contact the shop to find out if they offer assembly for you? You may be able to return them for assembly and pick up a few days later.

With pockets, you typically have an invitation card to attach to the pocket, and sometimes there is an extra backing layer. You may also need to attach the belly bands, depending on the styles and layers you chose.

I always give my brides the option to save by assembling themselves, or I can assemble for them for an extra fee. The fee is determined by how many parts there are and the time it takes to put each one together.

Many brides opt to DIY the assembly, but others just don't want the headache.

I have back ground colors for my invitation. I need to glue the invitation to the red background card, glue the red background with invitation to the black pocket invite. I then have a tab on the front with our names on it where I need to glue the name card to the red background paper, and then glue the background with name tab to the invite.

I basically have to glue 6 different pieces of paper before inserting the cards and response envelope. If I had known that was the case, I would not have got the back ground colors.

When I assemble invitations, I do each step separately, so it goes faster and is more consistent. I would recommend attaching the invites to their background cards - do all of these first. Then do the next step, then make the name tabs, etc. Get a few friends together and it will go quickly! Best Wishes!

The place I ordered mine from offered assembly, but I opted to do it myself to save money. I used Glue Dots, and did it assembly line style. With help from DH and a bridesmaid, we assembled 75 in a hour or two one night. It wasn't that much work.
