Plus Size Dress

Laurel, on November 28, 2018 at 3:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

Hello everyone!

I knew that dress shopping would be hard for someone who is a standard dress size 18. I know in bridal dresses you have to size up. I had no idea how expensive some of these dresses can be.

Our wedding is May 11, 2019, and I have found my dream dress from Studio Levana but OMG it is $2300! I nearly wanted to ball my eyes out. I am in love with the dress but there is no way I am paying twice my rent to get a dress for a make of 8 to 10 hours for one day.

Ladies, I need your help in finding a dress that is similar to my dream dress attached below.

(This is not my photo and this is not me)

I love the large lace with little beading/embellishments. I love the neckline! I love the silhouette. It looked absolutely gorgeous and so flattering on me. I am looking for a dress extremely similar and I would love to get it from a designer who has the curvy bride in mind!

I am extremely discouraged and need help.

Thank you in advance! Smiley heart

Beautiful dress choice! I hope someone can help you out because I don't even know where to start with my own dress.
Good luck! Stay confident and don't second guess yourself if it's the one.

I wasn't looking for a specific size or style, but I did have a firm budget I didn't want to go over of $1,500. I'm in Denver, so there are a lot of expensive high end bridal salons in the area. I called ahead prior to making the appointment and just asked how many dresses in my price range they had. So maybe call some local boutiques, and ask specifically how many dresses they have in your size & price range & in lace! Some asked for pictures in advance before they pulled dresses so you could do that too.

Also, look to Anomalie maybe or at least do their phone call. They make custom dresses for affordable prices.

Ok great. Thank you! I'm in the Boerne San Antonio area that can be pretty pricey. Ill call around and get ideas on if shops have my size, budget and the style I'm looking for.

I recommend David’s bridal if you have one near you. They are lower priced and have bigger sizes

Yeah, I had to drive about an hour to each shop! They were all in smaller towns, just boutique stores but they had a lot of options.

Sorry to hear about this! However, this should be used as a reminder to other brides to make your budget very clear to your consultant and to not try on dresses over budget. It can be devastating to find the dress only to realize it’s financially not feasible!

Have you looked at BHLDN? They have a lot of dresses in reasonable price ranges. They have some select salons across the U.S. and also have an online shop with a good return policy. This dress has the most similar qualities to the dress you tried on: https://www.bhldn.com/new-wedding-dresses/be-true-gown/productoptionids/fbcaeb8b-b90b-4e9a-9313-32da085940dd There were others that had similar qualities as well but not sure where you’re willing to compromise. Worth taking a look!

Ugh, sorry! Forgot to mention that I found BHLDN’s bridal sizes are surprisingly accurate to street sizes unlike most other salons. Just be sure to double check the sizing charts!

I agree, Anomolie is a good choice because they custom make them. They advertise that they are fair prices so that would be an option! I did a call with them back when I was looking and they said they started at $1000 and go up depending on the design and materials. But this doesn’t look like a dress that would be needing crazy expensive materials so you should be looking closer to the $1000, which is half the price of this dress!

Cocomelody has an outstanding selection of plus size dresses for great prices. Here is one that reminds me a little of your dress. They are on line, but have a store in Los Angeles, if you are ever out our way. They also do custom sizing for just $89 more.

I second cocomelody. I will actually be ordering my dress from them, and they have a payment type plan option.
