Plus Size dress tips needed

Shannon, on February 12, 2020 at 6:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23
As I am beginning to panic about finding my dress. I know that I NEED to actually get out there and try some on. I tried a few on in November and was extremely discouraged. I am wondering if anyone has good tips or a good brand of bras or shapers to wear with a wedding dress. Every dress I liked did not do well with a bra and I am a well endowed woman who needs tons of support in my chest area. I am discouraged to even go back and look at dresses for the simple fact that I dont know which bra to get that can work for most dresses but also offer support. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!!

I would suggest you go out and try on some more dresses because most Bridal boutiques will provide the appropriate shapewear. . I would try draven's Bridal. That's where I got my dress and she had me put on a corset to best go with type of dresses. I was choosing. Don't give up and maybe you can go online and look up the best type of dresses for your figure.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I went to David's Bridal in November but they said the only thing they had to help in the chest area was to add padding and at the shop they only had D cup ones and it didnt offer support at all and the D cup padding wasnt even close to what I needed!! But I will definitely look up the best dress for my figure thanks again!!❤

Well, I don't know what size or chest size you are. But then what I could suggest is buy some shapewear for your body type something strapless and bring that with you. I know you can get a lot of things on Amazon and you can also check Kohls.

Great thank you!! I will check out Amazon. I have not had much luck with Kohls but I also havent been there in years. Right now I wear a size 46 DDD. I normally get my bras at Lane Bryant but they didnt have anything that would be good for wedding dresses. At least not in their store. Thank you very much for your advice!!

When I went shopping I brought a strapless bra that provided virtually no support. But the salon put me in something to go with the dresses and I ended up purchasing that. Just keep looking, you’ll find something beautiful. It also really helps if you bring positive people with you. They’ll help you feel beautiful and feel good about your decision.

So I bought a really nice strapless bra off of ThirdLove, and I just checked and it does come in DDD cups. That's really weird that that David's Bridal said they didn't have anything, because I'm pretty sure their corsets do come in large cup sizes. You may just have to order it online.

Found it. Its does wonders for support - you might not be able to get a triple d, but you can try it out at least and see if this works for you. This is what I'll probably be wearing under my dress, and I'm a curvy girl myself. Don't give up! Smaller salons also have plus size samples - just call ahead to confirm - and you can at least get an idea as to what you like and don't like. I went through two other dresses before I finally found one I truly loved, so don't give up. Also once you buy from David's Bridal, you're pretty much locked in. So make sure you're sure.

Good luck girl. Breathe. Even if you don't end up liking a traditional bridal gown, you can also find a nice white evening gown that gives you the support you're after. Or I've heard of brides having a bra sewn into their dress, so that might be an option too. You got this! Go try on some more and enjoy the process!

Thank you thank you thank you!! I will definitely look into those options. It's really frustrating because I want to show off my assets but in a classy way and I dont want the to not be supported. Haha

I feel you!!! When I initially went into David's Bridal, I was terrified about that because I too am well endowed- thanks Mom. That corset really supports my girls and sucks me in at the same time, so it all comes together perfectly. I bought mine in store, but you may have found a David's Bridal that could only be half bothered to do their jobs. My suggestion would be to make an appointment at a different one if you can, and maybe even call ahead to see if they have a corset. I went to three David's Bridals, and all three were widely different. The first she had a hard time fitting me for the corset, but her manager figured out my cup issue eventually. You just gotta keep looking and know that there is a good DB out there. The last one I went to was amazing.

You can see support with tasteful cleavage! Tell them what you want and they can help - this was the first dress the third store pulled, after listening to my complaints about my other 2 dresses lol. It ended up being perfect.

I 100% get this struggle! I'm a 42H so I was worried about this too. I just wore an old strapless bra to my appointments and honestly took it off for most of the appointments because the dresses fit better without it. Davids bridal tried to put me into one of their corset bra things but they gave me a C cup which honestly was just laughable because I didn't fit AT ALL. When I eventually did find my dress though, they ordered it to fit my chest and I will get the rest altered down to fit when it comes in. The dress I chose has built in support and cups so I don't even need a bra day of (happy dance!). Keep looking, I'm sure you'll find something you look and feel beautiful in!

Listen I am a 38 double D and I went to David’s bridal and they put me in a torsolette. If you’re worried about being strapless and the weight of your breast you can always do something with straps or even a cap sleeve on your wedding gown. Don’t get discouraged because there are many options out there for women with heavy girls.
Here are my 2 I tried on.

It's really hard to judge what type of undergarments you would need for a dress until you decide on the style of dress. When I went dress shopping I just wore a basic supportive bra and shapewear panty. Bridal shops will tuck and clip and whatever to try to give you an idea of the final look but discussing support options is best done with your seamstress doing your alterations. There are a number of tricks and tips they can give you for getting the ideal fit from adding cups and padding (yes I know that sounds weird for a well endowed person to need padding but it really works) or boning or just structural undergarments. Don't give up.

Oh my goodness I love those dresses!!! I am a 46DDD so I definitely cant wait strapless. I wanted long sleeves anyways but I'm noticing that a lot of the backs are open or deep backs so trying to find bras to work with the back of the dress is my issue. I will keep searching!! Thank you for your advice

The dress that I had on with the Sleeves has a small opening in the back. You could wear a long line low back corset that could still provide you with support. And they do have adjustable or I should say removable straps you can also ask your seamstress to so in cups for you and some can even so in the cups with an elastic band across the back of the dress to hook like a bra and give you that sleeveless or strapless option if you really wanted to go strapless. Sweetie don’t feel defeated because there are options for us curvy or plus size women now get out there try on those dresses and own it! You got this!

I'm a 36DDD, and I feel your pain of the dress shopping. I was absolutely terrified I wouldn't find anything that I would feel comfortable in. And I was also convinced I wouldn't be able to get the backless/ sleeveless look I wanted because I would need a full bra. I honestly ended up going braless when trying on dresses. There were a few it was obvious I shouldn't have, but for the most part that worked best. I was lucky enough to work with a consultant who also more gifted than some, so she understood my struggle and was able to pull things she knew would work. The dress I ended up finding works really well with my big chest and I'm going to have cups sewn in just for a little more comfort. Even if that means I have to go buy my favorite style bra and cut it up to fit in my dress.

Hi, I am a 46G and am wearing a dress with no undergarments! My alterations person added boning to support the boobies and put cups in. It is fantastic! This is before the dress is finished but can give you an idea of how much support she was able to add. Good Luck!

Also this is a dress I never thought I could wear due to my size but it ended up looking amazing. I agree with Kaitlin, try to find a plus sized salon it makes all the difference!
