Plus Size Dress Shops in Michigan

laurenollie93, on July 15, 2017 at 12:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

I live in Traverse City, and I can't seem to find any dress shops that carry larger than a 14 in my town. I am wearing a size 26 pant, and a 22/24 top. I don't know what style I would like or what would look good on me. I would like to find a dress shop that has sizes going up to the 20's at least. I keep feeling like shops are telling us bigger girls aren't allowed to get married because we are too big.

I am also dieting and trying to lose weight.

I was able to try on size 22 and 24 sample dresses at Davids bridal. You might have some luck there.

Bombshell Bridal is specifically for plus size brides but it is located far from you in St. Clair Shores Michigan. They do have a website you might want to check out.

    Hi Laurenollie93,

I totally understand how you feel! I too am a plus- sized bride. It has been interesting to say the least.

There's a shop in Grand Rapids. It is called Bridal Elegance. They have sizes up to 28. The website is:

    Good Luck!

I am zero help as I now live down state. Fantastic Finds in Lansing has a great selection (though I know it's a home from TC). GR should have a few more options as well. Unfortunately that far North there just aren't a ton of options. Whenever you do find your dress though please come back and tell us (with pics) where you found it!

I wanted to try on a specific dress. I went to Bridal by Viper (5hours from where I live). I don't know where that is in relation to you (FH is from MI, I just visit mostly) but I had a good experience and they had plus sided dresses for me to try on.

Becker's in okemos and fowlerville, fantastic finds in Lansing, America's bride in Grand rapids, David's bridal has an OK plus size selection. I have found that each location has a different selection to try on. The dress I bought at the Flint David's Bridal was never even seen by the employees at the okemos David's bridal.

If youre willing to travel, you could gol to miss pamelas, which is a plus size bridal boutique that has up a size 30 i believe. Its in a small town in indiana but it was so worth. The amazing reviews speak to the experience you will get there. I made the 2.5 hour drive from illinois and i was astounded as to how welcoming and comfortable i felt. I ended up buying my dress from there. Apparently brides travel across states to go there. Highly recommended

** Sorry for the long post **

First of all... you are a queen and don't have to change anything about yourself to fit an industry standard of a "bride". You will SLAY no matter what! You will be so blissfully happy on your wedding day and that is what will make you a beautiful bride.

I am a plus size bride as well and I came to terms about a year ago that I was not going to do any weight loss before the wedding. Yes, there are a lot of things I'd like to change about myself but I know that worrying about diet and exercise will take the joy away from wedding planning. And honestly, it will probably cause me and my body so much stress that I won't attain the goals that I envision in this short of a time. And I won't stand for it when it comes to my own self. I will be focusing on self care rather than dieting.

I was so stressed out about wedding dress shopping. I REALLY didn't want to go. It's really hard as a plus size bride to see all of these beautiful dresses and cute outfits that I know I won't find in my size. However, Bombshell Bridal in St. Clair Shores is AMAZING! This was the first store I went to and they carry only plus size gowns with samples in a good range of sizes. I didn't end up finding my gown there but I started the shopping process at a store that made me feel like a bride and not a plus sized bride.

I ended up buying my dress from Becker's Bridal in Fowler. Little bit less of a drive for you. They didn't have as many gowns in my size as Bombshell but the sales person was very understanding and respectful of my body and body image. And I LOVE my dress <3

Remember that this is an industry that preys on people for their money. They will tell you that you have to spend all of this money and time to have a perfect wedding. Instead, enjoy this time with your future spouse. It is (most likely) the shortest phase of your relationship. There can be a lot of joy in wedding planning. Don't let other people's beauty standards rob you of that joy.

    (continued... sorry)

    dress!

This is an industry that preys on your money. Don't let their beauty standards rob you of this joyous and short chapter of being engaged to your future spouse.
