Plus size Brides - David's Bridal Experience?

soontobejessieb, on July 15, 2016 at 10:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

I have my first ever dress appointment tomorrow at David's Bridal and I'm nervous. I'm plus size. Like, REALLY plus size and I'm nervous I won't be able to squeeze into any sample dresses :-/ Any plus size Brides have any experience to share? I would surely appreciate it!

What is really plus sized? DB has many samples for a large variety of sizes! They will have plenty for you to try on! I felt the same way but when I went to my boutique there were over 10 dresses for me. I'm street 16/18.

I would call to make sure they carry your size in samples. I'm very fearful about dress shopping, and have spent time calling to ensure I'll have something to try on.

I have gone once and I didn't have any issues. They have all kinds of sizes. I normally wear anywhere from a 22-26 depending on the cut. I am going back tomorrow as well go hopefully order THE dress.

I went to David's bridal.. i am a street 22/24 and had tons to try on. Some would not zip but that is ok.. i got the idea of what I liked and what a dress would look like in me.

I'm just finishing up my wedding dress search and my experience with DB went well. Tho I am not buying my dress from David's bridal they did an awesome job of making me comfortable and understood what I was looking for. I'm usually a size 12/14 but in bridal I'm a 16/18. Every place I went to for dresses said that bridal is two sizes up from you normal size and they were right.

I had my first wedding dress experience at David's Bridal today and it was awesome. I had no idea what size in bridal I am, streetsize is 16-18 and I tried on samples that were 18-20. I was right in the middle. It looked like there lots and lots of plus size options higher than 20 too. The consultant was great and made me feel special. I recommend David's Bridal for plus size sizes for sure!

I'm not sure what you mean by very plus size but I'm a street size 20 and I went to David's and had a wonderful experience! I tried on about 8 dresses, they all fit (or were very close to fitting - the one I wound up buying zipped up almost all the way but not quite all the way). I probably would have had more available to try on but I didn't want anything strapless, and my budget was lower than some of their more expensive dresses. My consultant didn't say anything about my size and had me try on a variety of silhouettes. She had me wear a slip and offered me one of their bras. I chose to wear my own bra and just pull the straps down. You will be beautiful! They will definitely have options for you to try on - no squeezing into dresses!

I didn't have trouble with finding dresses in my size at David's Bridal, although I really didn't like shopping there. I didn't feel as though the lady who was helping me knew enough about the dresses. They said the same thing to me, that dresses run two sizes up. But I went to Alfred Angelo and bought a dress in a size that was actually smaller than what I wear. I think that certain designers have different size variations. Things like that just made me uncertain of them. Plus their dressing rooms at the one I went to were tiny. Smaller than most Macy's fitting rooms. Not saying you won't have a different experience. Just thought I'd let you know of my experience. You'll definitely be able to try on dresses anywhere even if they aren't your size. I tried on size 12s and 14s.

Sorry folks, I should have elaborated, I'm a street size 22/24 (and I certainly hope I didn't offend anyone with my phrasing 'REALLY', I just meant I'm not plus size as in 16/18- I wish!)

DB probably has largest selection of over size 14 gowns.

Be prepared that stuff still runs small. I am a 14/16 and the dress at dB was 20 I tried on it was snug. Don't stress on size. Worry about how u feel

The closest David's Bridal to where I live had everything up to a 26 but there were only a handful of size 26. With my breasts my consultant only had one dress for me to try and she tried to pressure me into frankensteining a dress that was the complete opposite of what I was looking for. Having said that, there's plenty of positive experiences for DB from the ladies in the Wide Bride group on FB.

I wear a 12 and am pregnant and tried on dresses. Some dresses on me even size 14 did not zip. It's all about the designer and cut. Size is just a number and I am sure they will have a ton for you.

I'm a street size 14/16and I went to a plus size boutique in NJ it was amazing because all the dresses were size 20 & up so I felt really tiny and had to be clipped in. Google and see if they have any plus size bridal salons near you. They make a lot of plus size gowns that really make curvy women look amazing. My allure gown had built in corset and really made my shape look amazing. I was so scared to go dress shopping but I loved every minute of it and I even tried mermaid style on and liked it which I was shocked. I ended up with more of an a line ball gown type but was still pleasantly surprised mermaid looked good. Try everything on and be optimistic!!!!! Good luck Smiley smile

Did you happen to go to The Curvy Bride? I've been trying to figure out what their price ranges are because I would like to go to a plus size boutique rather than David's Bridal because I've heard some absolute horror stories but I don't have $3k to drop on a dress before alterations (which I will need a lot of because my body isnt shaped the way a plus size body should be according to designers)
