Plus size bride undergarments?

Jessica, on January 8, 2016 at 2:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

So I'm late, but I'm going to start dress shopping soon and I have no idea about what to wear underneath! What did you wear to try on dresses? Just undies? Garter? Slim wear? Thanks for your input! -XO

Yandy.com has a lot of great deals on plus size lingerie. That's where I personally shop and the quality is amazing.

I wore a slip and a strapless bra for dress shopping. Not so much slimming reasons, but just so I was covered enough that I felt comfortable during my appts. Once you purchase your dress, they'll help you figure out what to wear underneath for the day of the wedding.

The places I went had shapewear for me to use. I am a size 14, but they had up to like twenty something.

Torrid is a great one too! They go up to size 28 (: and they use size numbers 0,1,2, and so on. It's so interesting shopping there. Just look at the size chart prior because the numbers sometimes confuse me

I like Spanx, Torrid has a line of shapewear now and I get my spanx from Lane Bryant. I'm having cups sewn into my dress and will probably get a tummy sucker that covers my thighs too so they don't rub.

Most of the shops that I tried dresses on at gave me something like a long bra or a slip to wear with their dresses. I wish I had on shapewear when I bought my dress because I look at pics now and I see my belly, but I know it will look great later.

I am in between wanting to wear shapewear and not because I want to be natural at one turn and appreciate and love my body how it is but I also want to look the best I can. I'm trying to think the way my body naturally is, is the best.

I wore a strapless bra and underwear I felt comfortable in someone possibly seeing. The store did have a long lined bra/corset thing for me to wear with the dresses. I liked it so much I bought one! They did mention that they have them in all sizes. Maybe check with the bridal shop?

I would recommend a strapless bra, underwear (you'd be surprised how many brides I saw come into the bridal salon commando, gross), and whatever slim wear you normally wear under clothes (if any). I wouldn't go out buying anything special for shopping because you don't know what you may need for your actual gown. Many bridal salons can make recommendations on where to purchase undergarments from or even order them for you based on your measurements.

When I went to try on dresses, I wore my strapless bar and spanx. At David's bridal, they ended up giving me a slip and a long bra. They slimmed me amazingly well in the dress....so when I picked the dress I went ahead and purchased the other items because I didn't want to try to replicate the look and feel. Good luck!!

I agree with Hips and Curves for your bridal lingerie and just everyday items as well. They have great quality and customer service has always been helpful.

I'd suggest not buying special lingerie until after you buy your dress. Bridal salons typically have some that you can use just to try things on. And the style of the dress will influence the underwear you need. For example, you would need a strapless bra if the dress is strapless, but not otherwise. You might want Spanx for a dress that is form-fitting below the waist, but not for one that is poufy enough that your abdomen doesn't really affect it.

I wore white boy short undies and a strapless bra. Figured I want to be as comfortable on my wedding day as possible so I don't want to deal with a dress that needs shapewear. Also I found a dress shop in my area that deals with plus size dresses. They were all built so you didn't even need a bra if you didn't want to.

I wore spanx and a lane bryant cacique multi-way strapless bra. The dress I ended up choosing has a built in bra, and I'm wearing a Rago waist cincher for the wedding. It gives me way more of a pulled in, cinched curvy look, vs the "freakishly smooth stuffed sausage" look i think spanx give me, lol.

Hmm. I do want to be as comfortable as possible. And I see myself in kind of a ball gown because I'm having a fall wedding and I'm in love with the ball gown w/ cardigan look. Thank you ladies so much!
