Plus ones for everyone?

Laura, on July 24, 2019 at 6:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

So, FH casually mentioned last night that one of his friends said she "might bring someone" to the wedding. He didn't say no, we're not doing plus ones, even though I made clear to him that that was the plan. Sigh. So now I suppose Friend A gets a plus one. He has a couple other single friends coming too. Do we need to extend plus ones to everyone now? FH says no, but for me as a single person at a wedding, I'd be ticked to see someone else able to bring a friend/date, when I didn't get that option. I think Friends B, C, etc, now need plus ones too, to be fair to all. (My budget be damned, apparently.)

What do you think? What's the etiquette on this?

I think you're totally right to feel uneasy about this! I agree with you that it's not fair to have some get plus-ones and others not

I think ettiquite is the guest in question is rude and if she tries to bring someone tell her no it was invite only. And tell your husband he needs to enforce that.

I am so not thrilled with FH about this. Guests don't "inform" the groom that they're bringing someone, and if they do, you tell them we're not doing plus ones. Grr!

I agree but it's apparently done now.

Well tell your husband no more. Does he not like having money? 😂

Apparently not. He's insisting now that it won't break our budget and we should offer plus ones to all his single friends. Inconsistent much?

I have one single friend coming but she wouldn't bring anyone so I'm not going to bother doing one for her, I think.

I would call FH's friend and tell her no, she doesn't get to "maybe bring someone" as you have already given counts to the venue (whether you really have or not), you have budget constraints, or whatever you can think of, and cannot accommodate anyone else. If FH isn't willing to do it, I guess you have to haha! Smiley smile

I'm not going to call her. FH offered to tell her, but we haven't made a final decision yet.

Thanks. I’m sure it will. I just may have the urge to do something unpleasant to miss decided to bring someone. (I kid. Sort of.)
