"Please" save the date? Yes or no?

BalletShoesRachel, on September 3, 2013 at 5:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

We're designing our STDs now... I am working on the wording, and wonder if you think it would be weird to say "Please save the date" instead of "Save the date"? No offence intended to anyone, but I feel that without saying "please," the card seems to be shouting an order.

Have I just completely gone off my rocker?

I believe saying, "please" will express how important it is for them to come.

Good question, we are getting ours done pretty soon and I didn't think of that. I may say Please Save the Date...sounds nice.

Sheida--Do you mean that people will think we really, really, want them there, or that we don't care so much, and therefore aren't "ordering" them to come?

I mean, I'm sure what you just said makes complete sense, but I'm having one of those days. Smiley winking

I've honestly never given it a second thought. Either is fine. I feel like "please" is a little bit more like begging them to come though.

We just did Save the Date, but I think if we used please I would word it "Please Save Our Date" instead of "the date". I don't know why, I just think it sounds better. I think I've seen some like that (online, not in person).

I intend to use "Please" i feel its more polite. I also like the suggestion to use "Kindly".

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! Smiley smile We did end up using "please." We have a photo with "Save the Date" on the front, and the back is more of a formal "Please Save the Date." It looks great! Honey is working on finishing it up right now... maybe he will let me post it later! Smiley winking

If you send a STD, people will realize that you are serious about requesting their attendance, whether you use "Kindly", "Please", or nothing before "Save the Date". Really, people don't look that deeply into it. If you're sending a "STD", they get it. They're A List. All the way...

It's so traditional to just send out "Save the Dates" that I never thought it was rude. It's just a informal request. To each it's own, its a personal choice.
