Please rsvp if ya wanna... 🤦‍♀️

Mandi, on January 11, 2020 at 4:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Today I was asked:

"Are you gonna have people RSVP?"

Well yes, I don't wanna pay for 250 people and have 10 show...
"Ok, well you know we're gonna be there.""Cool, but mail that card back."
I thought we were over this. But noooo.

Omg that’s so annoying, I hate when people were like “oh you know we’re coming” like no, I did not know! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Unfortunately some of those people you’re just going to have to wait until the deadline passes and then bug them and then have them act like they were above the RSVP since you “knew.” 🙄

I get this. We’re about to mail ours out and I know I’ll get some of this. I think there will be some I’ll cut slack on (clearly bridal party, immediate family, etc.). But I’m not sure where to draw the line. If someone (friend, coworker etc) texts me and says they’re coming and bring X guest, do I take that as the RSVP or do I really insist they mail the card back? Makes me wish I had done meal options if only for that excuse....

Tell them “great, please send your card back as well so we can count you in!” I will be making sure everyone sends via paper RSVP. Too much hassle trying to keep track of texts in addition to everything else.

How annoying! Did you direct people to a wedding website? I saw in a forum here that people added FAQ pages, and one of the suggestions was, can we RSVP verbally, and it said, no please mail back your card.

That might be a good idea. We have one and there's not a lot on it. Might be something to add.

I'm having the same issue! I totally expected it to happen but it is so annoying going through it. Our RSVP date is 1/15/20 and we have only received half of our RSVP's back. When we sent out the invitations we made the decision to make January 15th the return date but we will give guests until January 20th before we start calling, texting or emailing them to see if they're coming. We know some of our guests won't put the response card in the mail until the 15th, lol. Our caterer and venue do not require final numbers until 2 weeks before our wedding so we have plenty of time to get everything together, but we have to make our seating chart and I am hand-making the place cards for our guests so they know what table they are sitting during the reception.
