Plated or Buffet style for Bbq?

Alma, on April 25, 2019 at 4:13 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 17

My theme is Boho Chic.

I have a venue and its semi formal. We have 250 guest attending. I know its a lot to deal with. But I wanted to know what would be the best option?

I had written formal, but per the comments I was clearly wrong. I guess its not possible to make it formal.

I've never heard of a formal bbq, let alone a formal plated bbq... how would that work?

With a guest list that large I will always encourage plated - just for the sake of logistics! Unless you plan on having quite a few different buffet lines, that many people could be quite the logistical nightmare.

A plated meal and BBQ don’t quite go together.

With that many people, regardless of the formality, I'd do plated. 250 people is a LOT to get through a buffet line, even if it's double-sided or you have more than one.

Agreed that with your guest list, waiting in line for a buffet would be very cumbersome for guests. I'd encourage a plated meal or buffet stations potentially.

We invited 250 guests and are doing a buffet: BBQ w/ buns, fried chicken, mac n cheese, green beans, and dinner rolls. Plus apps & desserts.

I am soooo glad I am not the only one with BBQ in there menu! I didn't think about adding mac-n-cheese but that sounds like such a great idea. thank you!

It’s hard for me to imagine boho and bbq as formal. What about a family style meal? That might be a good middle ground.

If it's formal, I'd do plated. But BBQ doesn't feel super formal to me, and you usually have a bunch of options with BBQ, so buffet may be better as long as it's set up in a way so there aren't super long lines.

I’m doing a bbq buffet, but I think plated would work just fine for a large number of guests. We only have 80. And I think you should do formal if you want regardless of the type of meat and sides served.

I would do buffet but for 250 I would think 3-4 stations/tables to cut down on waiting in line.

I wouldn’t say we have a theme, but it’s NC mountains in November, everything is red and gold and roses. We’ll have formal dishes, high quality linens, and servers. Dj and beer and wine.

Since it's BBQ style I would do buffet but set it up into multiple stations so the lines don't become massive around one table. Hope that helps!
