Plated Meals?

Sophie, on October 31, 2019 at 8:18 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 17

We are doing plated dinner at our reception and there's something I'm unclear about. If guests indicate on their response cards which meal option they want, does that mean I have to do assigned seats so the caterers know where to bring each meal? Or can I just do assigned tables? How would that work with everyone getting the meal they requested?

Thank you!

We aren’t doing plated but recently went to a wedding where the meal was served plated. The couple submitted the guests selections ahead of time and then our name cards indicated what meal we wanted. we were assigned tables but not seats. Maybe ask your caterer what is easier for them. Good luck!

We used escort cards that had a sticker that indicated their meal choice and table number. They could pick their own seat at the table.

I've seen some brides also say they just told their caterer "table 1 has 4 beef, 2 chicken, 2 vegetarian" or whatever. But I think doing it like Kelly did is a better option, some guests might not remember what they chose for a meal

You can do what Kelly said. Also, you may want to check with your venue. Ours wanted a count, but it was just to make sure they had a reasonable estimate of who wants what, but guests were able to choose an entree at the wedding.

We are doing something similar to Kelly! I’m using it as a chance to show off some of my favorite book quotes- beef, fish and vegetarian will have different love quotes on one side and Color coded names on the other.

You don't need to assign seats but it will be helpful (and maybe even required) to do an escort card with a meal icon or legend on it so the server knows where to serve each entree. I used a legend and used my tree motif from my invitation suite. 3 trees = beef, 2 trees = salmon, and 1 tree = chicken.

The stickers are from Etsy! The escort cards were done by a calligrapher.

My venue requires place cards with some sort of meal identifier. I love the little animal stickers but my FH did not, so we wen't jewels. Pink for Kids meals, Black for Filet and Gold for Salmon!

I would definitely talk to your venue and see if they require anything! I've been to weddings where they only told how many entrees per table and it was kind of annoying to have the server come up and ask everyone what they got! Plus it makes dinner last so much longer.

I was going to suggest exactly what Kelly did. Some sort of indicator on the escort card would be perfect.

You need to ask your caterer. They are all a little different.

Yes you will need to do assign seating, I was already going to do that so it’s not a problem. My venue said I needed to be a indication on the name tags to show who gets what!

I just have to give my venue a floor plan with each meal amount (4 filet, 4 crab cake, 4 chicken etc) on each table.

You need to check with your venue on that.

We are doing assigned tables, with reserved spots for certain people. (best viewing seats for family members) and instead of stickers on the cards, we are doing different color cards.

Iris for one meal, purple for another, white for vegan

I love the idea of doing different colored cards. I would definitely consider doing this. Thank you!
