Plated Dinner-how to Address that with guests

Andrea, on August 30, 2018 at 10:27 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

For those who are having a lovely plated dinner for your weddings:

1. Did you let your guests choose on their rsvp what specific meals they wanted (e.g Roast chicken with Mushroom sauce and seasonal vegetables opposed to just choosing "chicken"?)

2. Did you put any meal information on your wedding websites?

If the venue will let them order the day of, I wouldn’t bother. It’s a pain in the ass to keep track of. We had a miscommunication with the venue and thought we needed meal #s but we don’t. I’m so happy I just threw all the RSVPs away.
We did put general descriptions down. Prime rib, chicken with lemon sauce and ginger teriyaki salmon.

I am hoping to put the 3 choices on the RSVP, I do want to try to be detailed just in case however I do not want it to be too long or look tacky so I am gonna discuss that with my coordinator and see what they think. Maybe there is a way to put is in kind of shorthand while still being formal and not tacky lol I don't want to just put, chicken, beef, salmon lol

Thank you for your input, but what do you mean if the venue will let them order the day of?

We chose the menu for the guests.

The main meal was a surf and turf to appeal to everyone.

When guests sat the waiters asked if anyone had food restrictions and then made separate vegetarian meals for those who wanted it.

It worked out well for us.

Some venues where catering is included allow people to order their entree during the wedding. They don’t always require numbers beforehand.

If you need to give your caterer totals before, I’d include it on your rsvp. For me, I always appreciate as much detail as possible for the meal choices. I can’t eat all sauces before of dietary restrictions so I like to choose something I can have over having to reach out to the couple to ask.

We gave our guests the choice of Salmon or Beef on the RSVP card (we have a small wedding with no vegetarians). I guess we could have put the full description on the cards, but "Fresh Norwegian Salmon Filet slow roasted with a Strawberry, Basil & Balsamic sauce" seemed like too much detail for a card. I really didn't think about putting it on the website.

I totally appreciate having all of your feedback and input. I did email my venue last night about that, so we will be having a discussion about if we did plated, would they need numbers prior or do they just ask all the guests the day of. I never knew some do cook the food made to order on site, that's really awesome. Smiley smile

We had little animal icons on our RSVP cards indicating beef, fish or chicken but then posted the full menu on the website.

We just put chicken, beef, or vegetarian. We hadn’t finalized menus when invites went out so I got too nervous to put more detail in case we changed which chicken dish we offered or something like that. We had a line for dietary restrictions on RSVPs and if people wanted to know more about the menu they’ve been texting me and I tell them!

We put Chicken | Salmon | Sirloin on the RSVP cards, but an option to RSVP online with full descriptions of the food. "Oven Roasted Chicken Stuffed With Artichoke Hearts, Roasted Red Peppers and Smoked Gouda" was way too much for the card! On our online RSVP, we included the vegetarian and children's options. Also included in our invitation sweet was an information card directing them to the website for more information (including menus).
