The biggest thing is to sit down and discuss budget because honestly that will factor in the type of wedding you have such as vendors or venue. Also, book the venue and photographers asap because they can book early plus as you will see here a lot of brides have been postponing into 2021 due to COVID. I recommend this site for ideas of other weddings and starting a Pinterest board for more ideas. Best of luck and congrats!

As pp said budget and guest list and venue are the top things and after that it would be anything else where you’d need to hire vendors for

October 2020 or 2021? Also, October and November are popular wedding months and hey that is awesome the parents are paying for things ha ha. Some venues to book out like two years in advance and some photographers can. I booked my photographer like back in early Feb and they told me I would be their last appt in November as they already had the month booked. I would ask friends who they recommend for photographers but you can check here or instagram too. I am attaching something that was truly helpful to me when interviewing photographers. https://stephaniekase.com/2017/for-brides/questions-to-ask-a-wedding-photographer-by-a-wedding-photographer/

Figuring out a budget and then getting a general guest list together is a good start! Knowing how many people you’ll most likely be inviting will help you narrow down venues! From there researching officiants, food, djs & photographers is a good idea! I’d start sooner than later, I just booked my dj for my June 2021 wedding and he told us we were lucky to get their last spot because they’d been booking 2021 like crazy! I suggest getting major vendors out of the way first then working your way towards smaller details/easier things to book!

    First, congratulations on your engagement!!

I would say if you haven’t already, start thinking about your wedding vision (for example: do you want a formal or casual affair? Do you imagine yourself in an opulent ballroom, or traditional cathedral, or rustic barn, or sandy beach?—there are way more options of course).
Then decide how much you and your future spouse are able to spend on your wedding. This will include talking with your families and seeing if they are intend to contribute and if so how much.
Once you have your budget, make a guest list so when you inquire info from vendor and go on tours, a) you know that the place can accommodate your guest count and b) you know how much it’s going to cost. The first vendor that I booked was the venue.
Then I would look to book catering (if your venue doesn’t include that), photographer, videographer, entertainment, floral designer or florist, choose your wedding party. I would even book hair and makeup because I’m sure those vendors are booking up fast too. Side note about the photographer: decide if you want to do an engagement photoshoot and send save the dates with a photo from that shoot. There are wedding planning checklists that you can find online that are very helpful.

Although I suggest to not procrastinate because of all the postponed 2020 weddings, I recommend not rushing either because you want to know that you’ve done the work (ie research, compare vendors, read reviews, interview) to hire the best vendors for your wedding. Good luck and don’t forget to have fun.

I 100% agree with PPs, deciding on a budget is super important, this will help you decide on guest count among other things you deem important/unimportant for your big day. Then get your guest list together, it doesn't have to be literally everyone you know, but the ones you really want there. For us, we put together 2 lists: Definitely invited and a maybe list if the budget was right. About your budget though, decide who would pay what & if your family is involved, be sure to talk to them about it as well (we have family helping us a lot with some things) because you never know what they can contribute.

Once you somewhat figure this out, figure out a potential theme that fits you both & colors and it'll go from there.

I also suggest not delaying in your decisions because we've seen 2020 brides who postponed are re-booking for 2021 so dates are going fast.

    Congratulations & good luck!
