How many of you are planning a wedding away from where you live and how are you doing it?! I currently live in CT but we are planning to wed in central/upstate ny where I'm originally from. My bridesmaids are there and anyone that would help is all there. There are a few who live where I live that would help but I still don't feel like I have enough time to get things done the way that I would like. It just seems kind of overwhelming at times trying to plan from 4 hours away.

I'm living in mass (finishing grad school), wedding is in New Jersey (where I grew up and my family lives). Delegating has been my best friend--I've also been doing as many wedding things as I can when I go down to visit. In march we're going down for a long weekend and doing tastings, my hair trial, and the bridal shower!

We live in Florida, our wedding is in central Oklahoma (which we picked because it's where I'm from, where we met, and more centrally located to our families). Second the email recommendation. Also, being only four hours away, you can make a couple of trips back over the course of your engagement to deal with stuff. I'm flying back to Oklahoma once and it will be a whirlwind trip consisting of a dress fitting, my bridal shower, hair/makeup trial, cake tasting, meeting with my DOC, priest, church organist, etc...so, if you can make more than one trip, highly recommend it!

Living in TN marrying in IL. My biggest hurdle so far, FH insists someone from the church marry us. Everyone I know needs at least three meetings with us together to be comfortable performing the ceremony.

We are getting married 2 hours from where we live. It's been slightly difficult. We choose this location because it's a halfway point for both our families plus absolutely beautiful and in our budget. Big vendors were obviously booked close to the venue. As far as makeup and hair I am doing lots of researching and comparing pricing for places close to me willing to travel and closer to the venue. We know that when we do our engagement photo session (near venue) we will be scheduling them for a weekend that we can also do our tastings, and do face to face meetings with our other vendors.

As a bride, this is very frustrating. It was a deal breaker when potential vendors were not responding to our emails within a few days before the contract was signed. We were so glad that we made that decision. We did make a few trips out to venue and event rental place. Otherwise, everything was done via email and phone.

As a vendor, we asks clients to use pinterest or intragram to share the type of pictures that they really like. Before we sign the contract, we have a few phone calls. When the wedding is close (1-2 months), we check in with the couple to talk in detail about the wedding timeline and plans. If you have a coordinator or planner, floor plans of the venue really help for long distance planning for you and all the other vendors.

I am from Long Island, NY and we currently live in San Diego and are planning our wedding back home in NY.. and it is SO hard and frustrating some times. Lots and lota of emails and phone calls.. and LOTS of plane rides. I travel so much its absurd but this is what we have to do! Sometimes it seems impossible, but ALL of our family and friends are back home where we are getting married so it definitely makes it a lot easier than it would be. Just remember to be diligent and keep calm, it all works out Smiley smile
