Planning a wedding is hard

Victoria, on March 25, 2016 at 12:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 23

I never realized how tough it is to plan a wedding. Years before my engagement I always knew exactly what I wanted when I get married. Now that I'm actually planning and budgeting it is really challenging. Has anyone else feel like this?

From day one. The hardest part for me is sticking to the budget. There are so many cute stuff I'd love to have, but they're not in the budget. Best advice, stick to the budget and you'll do ok.

I completely agree with you!! I got so overwhelmed in the beginning that I just wanted to go get married on a beach and call it a day. After I gave myself a break from planning I finally decided on a traditional wedding. I'm so glad I did. If I didn't have a wedding at home I'd regret it down the road. Don't let the stress get to you. You'll find what you love in your budget it may just require more effort. Your day will be perfect!

Actually am totally loving it because of some other trials at the moment --- the wedding planning of #lovefest2017 is the joy in my life.

Yup budget can be a real buzz kill. I think I fantasized of dozens of different dream wedding options. Few were realistic. It's funny how once you start planning for real it's totally different.

Totally agree. I knew exactly what I wanted until I found out how expensive everything is. And I never knew stuff like ceremony music and bridal bouquets could be so complicated lol.

The hardest part for me has been the guest list. I know people advise to not invite co-workers and I totally understand why, however I'm a teacher and I've been at the same school for 16 years. These people are my second family... but I can't invite them all!!

Btw - the one hard part had been the guest list. . It really makes you evaluate your relationships. I wish you much luck... it will all be beautiful!

I have no idea why there's a Batman and Catwoman pic but I like it.

Best of luck with your planning.

It got a lot easier/less overwhelming once I actually knew what I wanted and wasn't just looking at every kind of venue out there within a 50 mile radius.

Budgeting was tough because like, we both love spending money when we have it. Lol FH is better about budgeting than I am, but he loves splurging on his guns/techie toys and I love splurging at Target. Lol. But I've realized that if I just move the money into savings or put it toward whatever it needs to go to right after I deposit it, I don't feel so shitty about missing Target because I'm proud of myself for, well, not going to Target. Or Amazon.

Right there with you! I never wanted a big fancy wedding, but I did want certain things and I guess I always thought that those things would be possible with my parents' help. When I finally got to the planning stage, my parents aren't able to help, so if I want it, I have to find the money for it, and my tiny, student loan strapped, librarian budget doesn't go very far.

I think you have to find things within your budget and be satisfied with what you have. Sometimes our society makes people think they need to have a wedding that's a huge ballroom extravaganza with 300 plus guests. Yes, everyone wants a nice wedding but you don't have to spend half a house mortgage to do so. Prioritize what's most important and what isn't as important to help cut costs. Also, think long and hard about your guest list. I'm cutting out some extended relatives and friends because they're not really present in our lives or don't know my significant other. Some may see it as rude, but a wedding isn't a funeral or family reunion. When it's all said and done, who will still be present in your new life (and not just at the standard family gatherings with free food and drinks)? The price is overwhelming but use that to remind yourself to save, save, save. I've cut back on eating out and shopping and discovered that I was spending $200-$400 extra dollars every month. Buy things as you go along or do a money challenge with your future spouse. Try to get invites online (wayyyyy cheaper than a stationary store), opt for silk flowers instead of real ones, look at simpler cake designs, etc. I keep a spreadsheet of payments and when I see that everything will be paid off in time if we stick to the plan it takes the stress off.

Planning hasn't been my problem, I'm actually at the point of bored cause everything has got a deposit on it (venue, dress, photographer, etc). I'm not doing bridal party, moms friends are cooking, no DJ, but classic Christmas songs; it's a Christmas wedding. I didn't realize though how expensive stuff was

Leaning the price of everything has been my biggest battle. Can't I just have my pintrest wedding?
