Planning a back up wedding

Sarah, on April 22, 2020 at 1:59 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6
My Fiancé and I are supposed to be getting married March 21st, 2021. I have brought up the idea of a backup wedding plan. Just because we don’t truly know how long covid 19 will be around for. My fiancé thinks it is a little early to be making plans for a backup wedding. I just want to be prepared come next year. Our original wedding has 70-100 people coming and it is Beauty and the Beast themed. If we do end up having to go with a backup plan wedding, it will just be a backyard wedding with pretty much just our parents and siblings who live here, so no more then 10 people. Is this a little early to plan or even be thinking about a backup wedding? Also what would be some cute themes for it (for decoration purposes). I would then still have a big party later on when we where told it is safe to have large gatherings again.

I think it’s a little early to be thinking about a back up!! My wedding is in December and we have talked about a plan b but are still sticking with our date. You have a whole year to go, I wouldn’t worry too much!! If you do end up having the backyard wedding you could do anything!! That time of year is close to Easter and there will be lots of pretty flowers for sale😊

I also think it is a little early for it. Come the end of the year if there are still issues you could start making a Plan B. The one thing you can do now though is if you still have vendors to book, make sure they have a good clause in it regarding you having to cancel for covid related reasons!

I think it’s ways to early for a backup plan in 2021 I would definitely wait a while!! I think vendors might not give backup dates in the coming months with the amount of weddings being postponed. If a wedding was planned to happen in the year 2020 they would be priority over someone that is booked for 2021. The other things to consider as well is that if you put a hold on a second date in 2021 that is a day that a 2020 bride is desperately needing!

I already have my main venue booked for March 21st, 2021. I am one of those people who like to plan ahead. If covid 19 is bad or worse in 2021, and my fiancé and I are unable to have our big wedding. I am wanting to have a small intimate backyard wedding. Then we could just push the reception to a later date. Since the venue I have right now is an Elks lodge, I don’t think I will have a problem with pushing the date out farther.

    Hi Sarah,

I agree with all of the comments above! I think it's too early to be concerned about COVID-19 messing with your plans. However, it never hurts to have a plan b. I wouldn't pull the trigger on anything just yet!

You're not alone- my wedding is booked for 04/10/21 and I am beginning to wonder about backup plans as well. My venue is in New Rochelle NY, where the NY outbreak began; the venue is actually within the containment zone that was set up with the national guard last month. We are planning on sending out save-the-dates in September, so I think I will wait until that time to make a decision.. hang in there!Smiley heart
