Placement of unity ceremony in the line up?

SummerS, on October 13, 2015 at 4:12 PM Posted in Planning 1 6

If you did some sort of unity ceremony (cross, sand, hand fasting, etc.) where did you put that in your ceremony?

I just received a preliminary wedding plan from our pastor (unexpectedly...OMG crying at my desk!!!!) and after I was able to read it over a few times, I'm thinking I may not like where he put our unity cross part...it seems like it would be awkward to me. It's towards the end, after vows and ring exchange but right before closing prayer and kiss the bride. I feel like that would be an awkward pause in the build up right there (does that make sense?) and that it seems like a better fit before we start the vows. What has everyone else done that had some sort of "unity" portion to their ceremony?

Since our wedding is next year, I'm not speaking from personal experience, but I think I see your pastor's thinking. Until you take your vows and exchange rings, you are still two, not one. And since the unity ceremony celebrates the two becoming one... Just my perspective.

We did ours directly after the vows and right before the ring exchange. It seemed to work out smoothly and fit.
