Placecards - How to Differentiate Two Guests with Same Name

Rosemary, on March 1, 2018 at 12:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I'm starting to put together our alphabetized list of names for place cards and realized that we have two pairs of guests with the same name (two John Smiths). Neither are jr/sr pairs and I am stumped as to how to write their names to distinguish them from each other because they have different meal choices and will be at different tables. The venue has requested that we give them the placecards in alphabetical order. Should I just hope they figure out which is which based on who else is at their table?

Thanks!

This. If they have the same initial as well, then write out their whole middle name. If they have the same middle name, then damn you'll have to get creative Smiley smile

Thanks ladies! I'll do some homework on the middle initials. Haha such a logical solution, but one month out and I'm losing my common sense

🤞🏻they have middle initials-hopefully not like my H's family where most of the men have the same first and last name and no middle name 😂

If no middle initial maybe you could put where they live like the state in parentheses. Or their relation to you like "Uncle John Smith" and "cousin John Smith"

If the middle initial doesn't work out, is there someone close, like your mom or an aunt, that knows them and can make sure they get the right one? Make a little joke and laugh and say something like "Hey, yours is the one that's labeled Table 7, so you can sit with your date!" or "you are this John Smith, with the chicken for dinner!"

Middle initial. Or, are either of these guests in a relationship? We did one escort card per couple, because we didn't need to indicate meal choice on them (they chose at the tables), so if you had John & Mary Smith on one card, and John & Jane Smith on the other card, they would obviously know what their SO's name is and would pick up the right card. And if their SOs have the same name too, well then you're just F'd haha. Put them all at the same table. Smiley xd

This is a good idea. Or maybe even just give them both a head's up and text them their table the day before!
