Place Setting for Someone not Eating

Stacy, on August 27, 2019 at 11:04 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Hi all,

This is a bit of a sensitive topic for me. I was wondering if anyone had advice/experience. Someone who is attending our wedding is on an external feeding pump (at the waist). The feeding pump is not visible, so others will not know without asking. He has MD and is not very verbal.

I was looking for suggestions on how to approach his place setting. Should I make sure a plate/cutlery/glass is not put at his spot? Should I treat his place setting just like everyone else? He does not eat or drink at all.

He will be attending with someone else, but that person is difficult to approach about these topics. I will be making sure the seating arrangement allows for ample space as he does not use a wheelchair.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would do the place setting just like everyone else's, no need to draw more attention to this guest.

I agree with Caytlyn. Don't draw more attention to the person and just have it set up like everyone else. Also I would let the caterer know so they can let whoever is serving that table know that she will not be eating so they don't have to ask (since you said she is not really verbal). Maybe if you have people attending the wedding who know this person, you could seat her with them so they wont even ask and know the persons condition.

Thank you all, I feel much better now. I think I was overthinking. Great advice on letting the caterer know and not drawing attention!

Will he need water or anything to drink? Or a place to set a bag or anything? I'd probably just do the place setting.

It's incredibly sweet of you to make sure his comfort comes first! I agree that having his place setting the same as everyone is the best option

Id still do the place setting but maybe include a little something extra just for him, maybe a small version of an item he loves, a special thank you card or some sort of picture, etc. Just a small trinket, show of gratitude for his attendance and a way of including something at his place setting.
