Place Cards or Table Assignments for 75ish guests?

B, on September 14, 2020 at 4:07 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

My wedding is going to be max 75 people. I really want to do place cards and not assigned tables! If I do this, I have no idea if it's going to take my guests 100 years to find their places, or if it's going to be super quick and painless. I've been trying to figure out if place cards work better with a certain amount of guests. I just don't want to have everyone walking around in circles instead of having a good time. Anyone have any advice or experience? Thank you! xx Also, I think we are doing buffet style, if that is important for anyone to know.

My experience is it only takes a couple of seconds- everyone helps each other out reading out names on the table etc. As long as people on the same table know each other reasonably well should be easy, especially for that number of people.

Oh and for specifics just have a seating chart to say ‘so and so- table 3’ I don’t think you need a seat by seat breakdown on your chart.

Well you still need a seating chart with names that directs guests to their table. From there, they find their specific seat. But you wouldn’t want guests wandering the room not even knowing what table they should be at.

I have around the same guest count for our wedding in 3 weeks. I’m going to have a table set up of place cards for people, (I’ve already designed my table plan) and they’ll have to figure out the seat they want at the table because most guests did not follow directions on the rsvp card and initial the entree choice!
I’d have to say this was one of the most difficult parts of planning!

Do you plan on still having a seating chart? I think if you have a seating chart then it will be easier, but if not then you may find some people wondering.

You definitely need to assign tables, but it doesn't really take longer for people to choose their seats than it does for them to find their seats at a specific table. You're only giving them each 8-10 similar seats to choose from, and that number gets even smaller as people start to sit down, so it doesn't take very long.

Typically, place cards are not used alone. You either have escort cards or a seating chart displayed somewhere prominent, and then the place cards are at their assigned seats.
