Place card etiquette first name?

Erica, on November 15, 2017 at 3:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

Hi all!

I fell in love with this table scape picture I saw on Pinterest. It's the guests first name made out of laser cut wood. I'm nervous that putting the first name of the guest is improper and would be looked at as rude although I have read that place cards can be more informal in comparison to the escort cards. All help is appreciated!!

Nice. Depending on the number of guests, though, it might be kind of pricey for something that most guests will leave behind to be thrown away.

I could see it for 10 guests.

Pinterest will be the death of us all.

If you have a lot of guests this could get pricey. Also could get confusing if you have any guests with the same first name.

I think it's nice for a small guest list and rectangular tables.

This will get pricey if you have too many guests - also what if someone has the same first name as someone else?

We are doing something similar (names on tiles) and only doing first names. last initial for double names to avoid confusion.

is there a way for you to work in table number and food preference? or are you doing assigned seating? will everyone need to search tables for their name?

Ha Ha @Celia - for real. First it was the Walkman, then the Smart Phone, now Pinterest.

That's a wonderful idea but could be pricey

We went to a wedding that had these a couple weeks ago. She has a big table number sign and at the table was the names. Needless to say I took mine home and it broke in my purse.

A first name is fine, unless your guest list is large and there are name repeats. Then it would get very confusing.

We are planning something similar. Guest list is 24 if everyone and all the plus ones show. No repeat names. It's actually better doing first namess otherwise we'd have several Mr./Mrs. Moore and Mr./Mrs. Olson.

Price is under $1 each on etsy and there are a variety of materials/finishes, wood, plastic, clear, metallic plastic. We're figuring plastic so people can take them and they are less likely to break.

I did this. It was about $1 per name and I used first names. I had some repeats but I don't think it's a problem. John Doe will know to sit next to Jane doe. Just make sure you have table assignments so people aren't looking for that. We also figured people will take them since it's their name

These are so cute! I was trying to think of a way/reason to give them to our bridal party or at least just my bridesmaids since I love them so much! Our guest list is just too big (250) and too many repeats to do for everyone.
