Pizza Bar Advice?

Jessica, on October 1, 2017 at 1:57 PM Posted in Planning 1 20

We have decided to do a pizza bar for our wedding! We will have a couple smaller options for specific guests just in case. We will have about 100 guests. Any advice from anyone who has done pizza at their wedding? How much should we plan to get? Any recommendations for pizzas places in the Denver metro/ Golden area that we should consider? Tips? Do's and don't's?

Have you thought about a caterer with a traveling pizza oven perhaps? I think this would help with a lot of logistics. It's a really fun idea. You could do a nice salad with it. Perhaps mini calzones and antipasta sticks for apps?

I know someone who went to a pizza wedding and they said it was cool except that the people who delivered the pizzas didn't properly mark them! So they were frantically opening pizzas trying to figure out which ones had what and it turned into a bit of a fiasco. Make sure they mark what each pizza is!

I've only seen it offered in small slices as cocktail hour food and after dinner food. All were at fairly inclusive venues (no one had to bring it in, or drop it off).

Have some other options and non-carb sides, like salad and maybe wings or BBQ. Have some gluten free options. Make sure you have a mix of veggie, meat, and plain options. Have enough food during cocktail hour and dessert

If you are set on this, and I don't recommend it for a wedding your size, find a gourmet pizza restaurant with a portable oven. Serve it hot, not out of boxes. You'll need more than pizza. Think about pasta, salads, veggies, cheeses, etc.

I wouldnt do it for your wedding. Im doing pizza for my wedding but itll only be about 15 people. We are also having salad, breadsticks, wings (Garlic Parmasan, bbq, buffalo), and sweet & sour meatballs. We are having a local place bring it in and we will be serving it immediately.

I'd look into a pizza food truck perhaps? We have a friend in MD that has a brick oven in his food truck and he does weddings. He also offers pastas and other sides/etc, but everything is fresh and hot when served!

If you're thinking like delivery from a pizza place, this is not a good idea. You'll need to keep the food hot, and have people to help with serving the pizza. In addition, not everyone loves pizza.

I think gourmet, wood oven pizzas would be good. But I think it should be one of several options, not the only option. I would do a full Italian spread with pastas, pizza, salad, and a protein option such as chicken piccata or chicken parm.

I did pizza just yesterday. Our guests LOVED it. We did 25 pizzas for 45 guests. It was wood-fired and generally worked well for our wedding size. We also had meatballs and 2 salads. There were some delays in having enough pizzas done at a time but only for like a minute. We gave our caterer free rein on types and she came up with some fantastic ones that people found unique and delicious along with the standards - melon and prociutto, apple Gorgonzola ... We wanted a mix of vegetarian and not, different sauces, cheese and not, etc and she did a wonderful job.

Unless you want your guests to judge you, and they will...you'd better be offering gourmet pizza (preferably as apps, but I think this is your entrée) with interesting side dishes. Pizza is known as the easy, Wednesday night meal...nobody will ever think of it as a wedding entrée, unless they show up and that's what's served. Yeah, yeah, yeah...those who have done think everyone loved it.

I'd urge you to go the pasta/Italian entrée route (also inexpensive), and serve tiny pizzas as apps. I wore gowns to the last four weddings I attended (and so the majority of ladies, and those who didn't were formally dressed). The thought of holding a piece of pizza and eating it with my hands at any of those weddings would be confusing to me. I guess I'd find silverware and cut it up into pieces and eat it on a fork.

If budget is an issue, there are far better options than pizza.

I'm not a fan of pizza for most events, but I've also had really good pizza at certain restaurants. If you are using a caterer who can keep it hot and it's REALLY GOOD and unique then maybe, but you'll need other options too like others have said. Not everyone likes, or can eat pizza.

Another pizza thread! I’m not a food snob but weddings are special, (usually) formal occasions and the food should match that. Do you really want your first meal as husband and wife together to be pizza?

What vibe are you going for? I don't see a problem with a pizza bar if it's more of a casual vibe. Just have a few other options with it for folks who want something else. Also some gluten free pizza if necessary. Maybe have some pasta sides and salads with it.

We are doing Pizza at our post elopement cocktail party... the venue is providing the pizza so it won't be brought in but the plan for 2 & 1/2 slices per guest. We are okay with that because there will be plenty of other apps
