Pittsburgh Area brides: Cookie Tables: How Many Cookies?

Kris10, on October 28, 2013 at 2:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

I've read in some places you should have 2 cookies per guest, some places (typically bakeries) up to 4 cookies per guest on a cookie table. At our engagement party, we a large cake and had 2.5 cookies per person (100 for a party of 40 people) and ended up with half the cake and 30 cookies left over. For our wedding, we're having one small cake mostly just for cutting and decoration, 15 10" pies and a cookie table. I think for a wedding of about 140 people, a cookie table with 280-300 cookies would be sufficient- is that enough? I asked our baker and she told me to go higher, but part of me suspects that just because she'd make more money, especially since we're not doing a big traditional wedding cake.

We're planning on 46 dozen cookies and anticipating about 115 people.

We're also going to have mini cupcakes, hershey kisses, and other chocolates on the table as well.

So that's about 4-5 per person, way more than I expected!

We are going a little overboard with ours, I won't lie. We've invited about 140 and we're having 23 (i think) kinds of cookies. 6-8 dozen of each type. But the cookie table is something my family always goes crazy for, so I'm not worried. I know people will want to take some to go and that's what they're there for.

So I'm in Michigan so doing a cookie table is already not a thing people understand. My fiance and I are opting for a very small 1 teir wedding cake just to cut and having around 80 guests. Since it isn't a typical thing here we want our guests to be impressed and not disappointed by the lack of cake so were going for 5+ cookies a person but that also includes us providing cookies to go as the wedding favor. I think we're going for almost 400 cookies if not more but many of them will be smaller ones like walker shortbreads where even my sugar intolerant fiance will probably eat three or more.
