Piñata??

Taylor, on February 10, 2018 at 2:10 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 24
My FH has let me do mostly everything I want while remaining supportive. He helps me pick colors, etc. the only thing he REALLY wants at the reception is a piñata. Is this even a thing? We aren’t a traditional couple so it wouldn’t be too crazy for us, but I’d still like some opinions.

It's becoming pretty popular. Personally, I find it silly since many times it's just the couple and wedding party breaking it and everyone else is just watching.

Maybe have one for every few tables? Is it adult only wedding ? If so maybe see if you can add some fun touches besides candy, like nips or lipglosses or somthing

I think it’s a little odd for a wedding. Does your venue allow it? I think it could be a liability

That sounds like a really fun idea! Might be a little odd to some, but I don't know who would hate a pinata. I would get a few so guests can participate too.

Is this part of his heritage?

What culture/heritage traditionally uses piñatas in weddings?
Italians, Spaniards and Latin countries did it for Christmas, sometimes birthdays and in the case of the Aztecs, God's birthdays.

I wouldn’t like this idea. Reminds me too much of a child’s birthday party.

IF your venue allows go forward... sounds fun, make sure the videographer captures those moments 😃

Agree with this. Check with venue first to make sure it's okay. I love pinatas and think it could be unique! And you could get some good pics!

It definitely could be fun but I'm just imagining being slightly drunk and accidentally wacking someone lol. What would you put inside it?

If your venue allows it, I think you should let him have it. I don’t want him to resent you for the rest of your lives for saying no to this one thing he wants.

Can you compromise and do this at your rehearsal dinner instead? Sounds like there are logistical issues at the wedding venue, so at least he would still get his piñata experience.

Could you do one where you pull strings or ribbons instead of swinging a bat?

Totally a thing. I did one at a baby shower. People got really into it but adults can hit really hard so you need to have a lot of space. Id do it early before people get really drunk.

I don't think a pinata has anything to do with what his heritage is. They are just fun! They are not a traditional part of Latino weddings.

I would probably do it at the rehearsal dinner or bridal shower if you’re doing the shower as a couple!

Why not have one? It would definitely mix things up a bit!
