Pig roast engagement party?

Marlene, on December 1, 2011 at 11:43 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Our engagement party is just around the corner and in my head, I've planned out an elegant evening cocktail party with lots of Tapas-style bites and nibbles. My fiance wants to do a pig roast. I don't want to be a bridezilla and say no but I don't want the party to turn into a hoe-down either. Any ideas on how we can blend the two together or should I just give in entirely and throw on my jeans and roast the pig?

I feel like a total snob for even posting about this, I just had already envisioned something classic and elegant and a pig in the backyard with its head spinning around wasn't exactly part of that vision. I also like the fact that a pig roast is something both of our cultures do, just not sure how to keep my upscale cocktail party feel with a pig in the backyard. Ugh. Ideas??

I think that is good idea especially since both families enjoy that ...So times when you have classy & elegant events some ppl are tremendously bored cause its out of there element ....I'm sure you can make the pig roasting i nice fun affair whether classy or causal the best part Family & Friends that love you

    Hope that helps

Omg, a pig roast sounds like sooo much fun!!

Depending on where you live, you can still do the cocktail party but just have it outside, around a pool, with a sort of Hawaiian theme with a pig roasting, fire pits, leis, lots of flowers, blue, yellow, and orange drinks, pineapple laced hors d'oeuvre, tiki torches, tropical decor...you guys wearing white...it can all work together

remember compromise is key... Smiley smile

I think a pig roast would be a great idea! It will make the environment much more calm and relaxing, which is great if this is the first time your families are meeting. And you don't want the engagement party to outdo the wedding. Plus, they'll be several other gatherings (actual wedding, rehearsal dinner) that can/will be elegant and classy. Let your fh have this 1!
