Pig roast dinner

Cassie, on January 31, 2020 at 3:30 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
Hi! I am having trouble with how i should tell my guests about our dinner plans for the reception. I am getting married in a church and reception to follow at my grandmother barn, on her 5 acres of
property. We are having a pig roast with many sides brought in. Do i omit this completely from my invitations/reception information cards? Or find a way to include it? My rsvp cards i have made myself and since there was no options of “ chicken or fish” i did not bother to put it there. I thought if i included that information anywhere it would be on the reception info card included in my invitation packet. What is everyone’s thoughts?

This is a personal preference. I would include it on the reception card because my crowd would love something like that. Maybe just advertising “Reception with Pig Roast.” Are you using a wedding website? If so you could put it on there as well. If not, no big deal. I don’t think there is a requirement to announce it. It would just be appreciated by some, especially if you have vegetarians or people who do not eat pork.

If you have a website or a details card, you can add it to one or both of those. It is not required to announce it but I would make sure you do have salad or at least some type of chicken dish if you are unsure of any dietary restrictions your guests might have. I don't think it is necessary to give choices on your RSVP card though since it is more of a buffet.

Agreed with Tara. I do think most guests will like a pig roast but it is also important to give people with dietary restrictions a heads up so they can plan accordingly. If I was a vegetarian, vegan, or didn't eat pork and I knew a pig roast was the meal, I'd eat a little extra beforehand to make sure I wasn't hungry. Nothing is worse than saving space for a big meal, finding out its something you don't eat, and feeling like you are starving after!

I don't think you have to mention it at all. If you want to, you could put an FAQ on your website like "What's for dinner?" then talk about the roast but I don't think it's necessary.

Unless you're specifically worried about dietary restrictions (some people don't eat pork) I wouldn't mention it. I would, however, assume based on the pig roast that this is a more casual event? Or if I read an invite that said "pig roast" (which tbh sounds amazing so I don't mean this in a negative sense at all) I would assume it is a casual event.

So if you're wanting to mention it for attire or dietary restrictions I would mention on your website what the expected attire is and put "menu - pig roast, various sides, etc".

I don't think it's something to worry about though.

Are you sure you don't have any vegetarians, vegans, Jews, Muslims, or people who simply don't eat pork on your guest list? If you do I think you should have some kind of alternate main dish for them, and definitely make sure they can eat several of the sides.
