Pie instead of cake?

BridalGirl24, on October 12, 2016 at 2:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 29

FH and I are not cake fans and I would prefer to do pie. I was thinking of doing it like how people do cupcakes, with tiers of mini pies of various flavors and then maybe a big pie we were thinking heart shaped on the top that we would use for the " cake cutting". Mom thinks we should have a cake too because people expect cake, what are your thoughts! We will likely be having a sundae bar as well!

Hi! I am not a huge cake fan either. I don't think you need to have a cake. I think you can do mini pies or (if it's in your budget) to have several regular-sized pies and in different flavors. I think that paired with a sundae bar is plenty. I've been to several weddings with pies, donuts, and chocolate fountain/fondue stuff as the main dessert course and never thought twice about there not being a cake...but maybe that's because I don't like cake!

I'd be thrilled to go to a wedding and get pie. Cake is okay, but I generally prefer pie.

Hey there, my DH and I don't like cake either, so we did a bunch of pies and had a donut tower instead. We just ordered a variety of different flavored pies from a local bakery and cut one of the pies during our "cake cutting" but I love your idea about mini-pies!!

My mother is also pushing cake --- I wonder why it's such a big deal to some people...? Anyways, I went to a wedding that had pie only and it was a huge hit! So many people were chomping down and talking about how they much prefer pie over cake. I say go for it!

I know lots of people who are cake fans... I know lots are aren't... if you want to have some cake, then do it... if you want all pies, then do it. I didn't even cut a cake at mine. I had some pie, some cakes (tiramisu, chocolate, lemon and strawberry), I also had cookies and éclairs.

We are not having a cake we are doing mini cheesecakes and then a "cutting" cheesecake like these ones, that way we can have multiple flavors too! Smiley smile

We're having pie at ours! We're just going to do about 12 or 13 normal sized pies in different flavors (we're planning on less than 100 guests) and a smaller pie for us to cut into and share. I don't think cake is necessary just because most people expect it. If they don't like pie, then they don't have to eat it. No one usually goes to the trouble of having an alternative for those who don't like cake.

I would have totally done pie if my venue's package didn't already include a local bakery's cake in the price. I, too, am not a cake fan but could totally get down with some pie! Our cake will be delicious, but if I had my choice I'd choose pie every time.

I'd have like a chocolate silk pie of some sort, maybe a cheesecake...different things than just fruit pies...

I know multiple people who don't eat fruit pies, but would have something else 'pie Like'

I LOVE cake but pies not so much. I definitely would be disappointed if there was only pie. With that being said, I think if you prefer pies it would be fine. It's kind of a your preference sort of thing.

Pie is awesome. Yes, some people will have expected cake. That doesn't mean you need to have one, unless you want one. If you do want to appease your mom you could always get a simple 2 tiered cake or sheet cake to serve but it's up to you!

I wish FH was down to do this and have doughnuts but he INSISTS on cake. I would be ECSTATIC if I went to a wedding with pie instead of cake!
