Pictures: Before or After the Ceremony?

Do you think it is better to do all of the pictures with the wedding party, bride and groom, and families before or after the ceremony? Why?

What is a 'first look' everyone keeps talking about?

We are doing shots with our own families before the wedding but we won't see each other prior to the ceremony so we will have to do some after. But hopefully we can keep the guests waiting as little as possible.

Emily it is where the bride reveals herself to her groom before the wedding. Like walk up behind him and tap his shoulder. We may do a first touch around a corner or something, but we are NOT seeing each other before. His groom suite is off the alter of the chapel and the bridal suite is a pretty good distance away, like down a few halls and around a couple of corners. My thing is I don't want other people to see me either. I think at 40 I am just an old fashion bride who wants traditional stuff.

We are not seeing each other before hand... I am doing pictures with my family and the kids before hand, and he is getting pictures done with his family and the kids before. Afterwards we are doing a few pictures of us with the families and some of us with the kids, then just us so the others can enjoy the cocktail hour. We do not want too many posed pictures, we would prefer more candid shots. But we have some that are must haves.
