Pics of Sheath dress on plus size bride?

Amanda, on March 12, 2016 at 6:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

I'm really in love with the sheath style dress. Almost all of the inspiration dresses I've found online and love are sheath. I haven't begun trying on gowns yet, so I don't know how they'll actually look on a plus size body. Online it says sheath is a no for plus size brides, but there are a lot of "rules" like this that I've found to actually be untrue. So are there any plus size brides out there who tried on or bought a sheath style dress? If you have pics for reference, please share!!

I wore a sheath dress and loved the simplicity of the style. I am not plus size but not thin either and it worked well for my frame and how I envisioned myself. The fit of the dress as well as your body type make a big difference in what style you can wear. For example, if you are proportional but plus size it may work for you. The best bet is to try some on to see how you feel in the dress.

Everyone's body is different so even if you found pics of a plus sized woman in a sheath dress, it might not fit you in the same way. You really will need to start trying on dresses to figure out what type of dress will complement your body the best.

The dress shape that suits you best has more to do with your proportions, not your dress size. I am a size 14, 36DDD, and although I don't think my hips are small they are smaller proportionately than some other women my size. My hips and butt also have a pretty good shape IMO and sheaths show that more than some other dress styles. I didn't buy this dress but it and all of the sheaths I tried made me feel comfortable and confident.

Haha thanks OKD! I love your dress as well! The dress I chose is a sheath, and I will share pictures of myself in it in about 70 days!

I probably won't get this particular dress, though sheath is my favorite style, but here's a high neck with illusion lace and keyhole back!

    For reference I'm a 36DD and about a size 12 bridal.

Mine is technically a trumpet, but it definitely is fitted and sheath-like. I'm a size 14-16 (street clothes). And usually need a size larger on bottom than I do on top, to give you an idea of my body type.

I tried on this sheath dress at DB. It wasn't my favorite on me but like PP said every body shape is different regardless of size.

And this isn't a "bridal gown", but a sheath evening gown I bought with the intention to wear it to my rehearsal dinner.

Not sure if this is considered a sheath but its fitted and a size 20. I had a corset on so it helped suck it all in and make it smooth but the dress was comfy and made me feel taller and slimmer. I love this dress but I'm still shopping around since I have time.

I only sort of qualify as plus. My ass is 40"... So curvy is probably more accurate then plus but. . There is this one.

And this one... Again. Semi sheath on a semi big butt. Lol. God I loved both these dresses.

    I ended up with a sheath/modified A-line, and wear a 14 street, 16-20 bridal.

Wow, you guys all look good in sheath dresses. This gives me more confidence to try them on now. I have bigger hips but overall I'm pretty proportional.

@Hayley, that second dress is GORGEOUS! Where did you find it and what was the designer/brand?

Amanda G- Thanks! It's an Adrianna Papell and I got it on eBay for a steal because it was a discontinued sample.

I thought I would hate sheath. I'm a street size 16. I unknowingly tried on a sheath dress and cried instantly. It flattered my figure much more than a-lines, which I'm told would work best for me.

This is what I'll be wearing.
