Pics From Your Husband's Ex

The Bride, on August 5, 2019 at 10:24 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19
Recently I saw a post where a father asked the mother of his child for a picture of their baby and because the child was breastfeeding at the moment she sent a picture of her breastfeeding the child. The father's spouse was very offended and felt that the picture was inappropriate. How would you feel?

If the mother of your husband's child sent your husband a picture of her breastfeeding their child would you be okay with it? Why or why not?

I would be happy that the child was eating and wouldn’t think twice about it. If you’re sexualizing a nursing baby, you’re the problem, not the mother.

The baby has to eat and nothing wrong with breastfeeding. However she could have waited until finished to send a photo

I would think it was a little weird, sure. But probably think well it's what the child was doing at the time and she took the picture and sent it back quickly on her phone. I would suggest getting a different picture later. I try not to read too much into that sort of thing.

I agree. She really could have waited to take a photo of the baby

Breastfeeding isn't sexual at all so there's nothing wrong with this, so long as the mother consented to have her photo taken and sent while breastfeeding!

That's definitely not sexual. It may have been a kind of "screw you" thing, like, "Our baby has a much closer relationship with me than they will ever have with you." On the other hand, kids are best served if the parents can find a way to co-parent. So if I were that father, I'd overlook any possible hostile message and be grateful for the photo. And if I were that father's new spouse, I'd butt out.

I don't have a problem with the breastfeeding picture, but I do kind of feel like the mom was being difficult. I'm obviously not sure, but I would assume the dad probably wanted a picture with the baby's whole face.

In most cases, children aren’t breastfed past age 2 so if the child is under age 2 and the father has already moved on and gotten married to someone else, I don’t think his new wife gets a say in anything related to this child.

As as far as whether or not I’d be mad, no. I’d be grateful that my new bonus child was well cared for and nurtured by his/her mother.

What if your partner had an issue with the picture? What would you do then?

The mother took the picture herself.

Why would the new wife not have a say if the child is under the age of 2?

Talk to them and calm the situation down. If a picture is important then it should be done in person. If it can't be done in person then tell my partner to politely ask for a picture when the baby is not feeding.

I do think they could have sent a different photo though if that happened. So I know I'd definitely be uncomfortable by it just because it's like huh why THAT photo? But I agree with PPs, it's not a sexual thing.
