Picnic reception

Future Mrs. Coombs, on October 1, 2013 at 2:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

We are having a small destination wedding. We'll be getting married in the middle of a city park. Would it be tacky to have a picnic "reception"? We want to make a picnic basket for each family (about 5). and lay out blankets and stuff.

Edit: If we decide to do a picnic reception, should I switch out my dress? Is the dress to formal for a city park wedding? My dress: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Sweetheart-Strapless-Lace-Gown-WG3263_Bridal-Gowns-Shop-By-Trend-Lacy-Looks

I think for a small destination wedding that's an adorable idea! Where are you getting married?

In Atlanta, GA. We are trying to decide between Piedmont Park and Centennial Park, if you're familiar with the area Smiley smile

I actually think that sounds like a really cute idea!!! Especially the idea to make each family a little picnic basket!

That sounds adorable. I like the dress a lot, and I'm not overly familiar with GA in September, but my guess is that it's still pretty hot, so you might get pretty sweaty in a long gown... Maybe if it's within the budget you could switch to a shorter dress?

Emmerdoodle- I was thinking about selling my dress and purchasing a shorter dress. I'm so in love with my dress though. Thankfully I have 11 months to decide.

Ohhh, gotcha... It IS a gorgeous dress, but I do think you'll probably be more comfortable in something shorter.

A picnic reception sounds like a great idea! Your dress is beautiful. If you are comfortable enough in it, I think it is appropriate. After all, you ARE the bride. That being said you can always switch into something that is cooler and more comfortable.

I'm not familiar with the area. Your dress is beautiful! I don't think it's too formal for a park wedding. You want to look like a bride. You may get a bit warm being a long dress but from the picture it doesn't look like there are a lot of layers and being strapless you will probably be fine. GA heat and humidity will make any clothing warm.

I'm doing an indoor "picnic themed" reception. Found really cute mini picnic baskets I plan to fill with personalized candies for favors. Because ours is indoors though, we are having a buffet style for food and we're sitting at tables Smiley smile The centerpieces are small picnic baskets with flowers.

Amanda- yeah the dress isn't heavy at all. No crazy layers or anything. but yes GA heat and humidity makes anything warm. That's why I'm second guessing the picnic idea.

I think it sounds really cute. I think your dress would fit with the theme still.
