Physical Invites and Evites

Soon2BSmith, on August 15, 2019 at 7:22 AM Posted in Planning 1 8
Late last night, my FH and I were talking about ways to get our wedding estimated cost down.
He suggested that we do both physical invitation for the older generations that’s aren’t so tech savvy, and then evites for those who are.
I’ve never heard of this, but I’m not opposed to it.
Has anyone done this?
Any issues that may arise with doing it?

There are tons of ways to cut costs during wedding planning, but I don't think that actually inviting guests is one of those ways. Electronic invitations would give off an extremely casual vibe, which is fine if that's what you're going for. If your wedding will be any more formal than a backyard BBQ, I would use physical invitations. There are plenty of low cost options on Vistaprint, Ann's Bridal Bargains, or Etsy. Potential problems are guests simply not receiving them, invitations being sent to spam, invitations being accidentally deleted, your guests won't have a physical reminder of the date, time, and location of the wedding which means asking you a thousand questions.

We’re doing physical invites but having guests RSVP online. This will cut down slightly on costs!

I agree that finding cheaper physical invitations is probably a better way to go. We also did online RSVPs (as mentioned above), but you could include physical RSVPs only for those who you think couldn't figure out your website. Invitations can get really expensive if you're doing a full suite, or having everything letter-pressed or hand calligraphy-ed, but you can definitely cut costs while still keeping physical invites.

We used Paperless Post For our younger and/or tech savy guests and mailed invites to the older guests. With paperless post you can also add electronic inserts for things such as attire, hotel, rsvp, etc. They were really nice. We chose a black envelope with the guests name written in gold script. It also has a gold glitter envelop liner. It's not free but it's much better than evite. We Spent $100 but probably could have spent much less because now I have so many "coins" left over. But I can always use them for several other invites. Here are some paperless post demos. My invites look better than this but this is all I could find

It will give off a more casual vibe, but I have seen several people do online invites for their weddings and they didn’t have any issues with guests receiving their invitations. The most recent wedding I attended that used them was my cousin’s, she also had a Facebook group and website and emailed STD’s so that may have helped anyone who may not have received the invite itself. Even if you mail it, there’s always a chance you have a bad address or it gets lost.

I can't really think of a reason that wouldn't work, but some guests might wonder why they didn't get a physical invite and some did. We used Ann's Bridal Bargains for our invitations...and I highly recommend this site. Customizable, affordable, and quick turn around time. We bought 100 invitation suites (inner/outer envelopes, invitations, and rsvp post card), used a 20% discount, and paid $9.99 for shipping......our cost was only $89. We got them within a week, and it even had some extras.

We didn't do 50/50 but we did all evites. It has been soooooo wonderful! It is an instantaneous response, no waiting on snail mail and I was surprised how many people rsvp'd right away. totally free, and those who didn't know how to respond called me and I did it for them. highly recommend
