It means that you have the rights to the photos and have them printed anywhere. A lot of photographers include an album in the package as well or you can add it on. You'll want the disc or USB so you actually have those photos for the rest of your life. You'll get like hundreds to thousands of photos depending on your package, you can pick your favorites and get an album done afterwards.

Our package includes all our pictures on a usb plus a physical album. A lot of the quotes I got came with pictures on a usb, I think that's becoming the norm. I don't like the idea of putting it on a CD though.

I think digital copies are pretty standard, and there is an extra fee for prints. It gives you more flexibility to do what you want with the pics (make a calendar, get a large canvas, etc.)

That seems a bit pricey (for my area). Is the 1700 for 8 hours, so you would pay half that for 4? Or is it for 4 hours?

Also, how many pics come in the album?

You shouldn't have to pay for 8 hours of coverage if you are only needing 4. They should be able to build a custom quote for you.

We opted out of the album for a few reasons, mainly I felt that they were overpriced. Also, in the state of Florida if there is no tangible item exchanged there is no sales tax, so it saved us the sales tax at least by not purchasing anything physical, so our money can go further. I like that we are getting the rights to print our photos wherever we want, all accessible through her website.

Our photos were delivered on a flash drive. This is pretty standard, because it gives you the rights to the photos, meaning you can have them printed anywhere instead of having to pay the photographer/company to print an album. In my opinion, those tend to be way overpriced.

@Asta, yes this is true. Maybe my experience has been different since I'm in march but I never had any issues building custom quotes through anyone I contacted, so @OP maybe try contacting more vendors to get more prices

Our photographer is giving us our photos on a usb. I like that we can do what we want with the photos.

I just wasn't sure if it was normal. I was going to go with another photographer that gave us the disc and album with all that we wanted for 1200 but I found out that she had very very horrible reviews! Smiley sad

I think getting the pictures with rights on a disc or USB is more important than getting an album from the photographer. We are getting a USB as well as an album made, but getting the album was a bit pricier.

All the photogs we interviewed noted that there was USB or disc option. That is really all we want because it will have to be sent and we want to be able to choose what to print. I saw packages with like 200 4x6s. What am I going to do with that many, wallpaper the bathroom? We only have 24 guests! By having the originals, it gives us the flexibility to choose which photos, what size, how many etc.

That's not a bad price at all.

We are paying 3500 for all day coverage with two shooters, online gallery of all pictures, engagement pictures, usb of all photos, and an album.

ETA: you can do the album yourself but my logic is if I'm paying someone a lot of money to take and edit the pictures than I want them to also put together my album. Also, I've seen my photographers albums and they are breathtaking. I'm super excited to have ours.

Don't pay for the album through your photographer. With all of your photos on a disc or usb, you can create your own album for much cheaper than $800.

We are paying $750 for 4 hours of coverage and I could be paying a lot more for where we live. We will be getting the photos on a usb.

Find a photographer you love and talk to them about cutting the hours down and see what they are willing to do for you.

I would love to be in the 750 range. That's more in our price range but we are also trying to get a dj with them too. With a dj included with the photo package it was 2300. But im hoping with only 4 hours of coverage and 6 hours of dj that we can get it under 2000

I provide my digital negatives on usb and online gallery. Discs are a bit passé. I don’t think it’s realistic to expect a DJ and photographer for that price and to include an album,

I paid $2500 for 6 hours. Got all my pics on an online gallery in HD and a size suitable for social media. He also sent us a USB. In NYC, that's a major bargain. We didn't opt for an album since I have a perk at work where I can print pics, albums, canvas prints for free. Even if I didn't have that perk, you can print pics and albums for much less that most photographers charge through Shutterfly, Walgreens, Costco, CVS, etc.

Are you sure 4 hours is going to be enough? I didn't do any "getting ready" pics and had originally booked 5 hours and at the last minute I added an hour before and was glad I did as we got most of the portraits done before the ceremony.

Yeah it should be enough. I dont need any of the befores. And our venue really isn't that big so there's not alot of places to take pics. And then I just wanted some of the reception with the guests and things. And all the special dances.
