I think about a photographer and I've found a girl who does the greatest wedding shots but she doesn't shoot black and white and I want some of my photos (actually, a lot of them!) to be black and white. She says she can do it but it won't look as good as I imagine and also she says that wedding photos should be colorful. I know I'm the one who makes the rules but do you think that black and white wedding photos look bad?

No but if that's what you want you should look for a photographer that can do it.

I think b&w photos look stylish, if she can't or won't do it (which is strange actually, you are paying and it is not her wedding to decide whether the photos should be in color or not!) you better look for someone else. Is she that good that you can't replace her?

We had numerous black and white photos from our wedding. Since that seems to be something that is rather important to you, then I would look for a different photographer.

She is just GREAT. I saw some of her works for the first time about 4 years ago and it all looked like a fashion magazine cover photo shoot! So I was beyond happy when I knew she could work with me but now I don't even know...

Then I see 2 options for you:

    1. You find another photographer who will shoot only black and white while your great girl shoots everything in color. In this case you will have to pay 2 people but you will get what you want. In fact, you will got all the photos x2.

    2. You work with this girl and afterwards either pay her more to make some photoы black and white or do it yourself (don't overload yourself with Photoshop and all its difficulties, use some easy photo editor like Photoworks). In this case you either pay more and get want you want or spend your time to get what you want.

You should keep looking for a other photographer. Yes, technically you can take photoshop and turn photos into grayscale (which may or may not be against your contract, some photographers say no further editing and posting in order to protect their brand). But there’s something to be said when a photographer has a color vs. grayscale photo in mind and stages the photo as such. You still need enough contrast in real life so the photo still looks vibrant when the color is removed. On a personal note, I love color and my husband loves grayscale, so we searched for a photographer who did both and our album is composed of both color and grayscale pages of photos.

I think black and white photos will always have a classic elegance to them but I also can’t imagine all mine being black and white

Out photographer doesn’t shoot black and white but will edit our afterwards to make them black and white. You can also see if another place will make them black and white for you. It might just be the camera she is using and her just her.

If you really like her work that much I would ask her if you can get a copy of the raw files of the photos she shoots and then you could have someone else edit the ones you'd like into black & white (or you could do it yourself if you're proficient enough with Photoshop).

My photographer included black and white versions of every photo. Some photos look meh in black and white but then there's others that look better than their color versions.

If your heart is set on black and white, then find someone else. It's important that your photographer is talented, but it's equally important that they shoot in the style you want for your big day.

A lot of photographers state specifically in their contract that they are to be the only professional photographer you may use at your event (unless they come with a second shooter of their choosing)

I think you should find a photographer who will do both

Yeah, I thought about it too. Maybe it is just her personal preference, who knows.
