Photography worries: just not photogenic?

Autumn, on April 29, 2017 at 9:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

So, I had my third dress fitting today and I LOVED my dress on and in person! It fits well and is comfortable! At the end of my appointment, I asked my aunt to snap a couple pictures for reference with different jewelry options. I looked terrible (subjective, I know!) I just didn't look like myself and it didn't look at all the way I felt or looked in person.

Is this just because my aunt is not a pro photog?! Should I be worried? I'll be snapping pics with guests and I'm worried that I'll look bad in pics all night! I know I'm not particularly photogenic but this was bad.

I guess my worry is that the way I photograph in my dress is not cute. Am I crazy?! Anyone else worried about this?

I did! I also had that same reaction so what I do now is to take pictures but crop my face lol I know it sounds crazy but its the dress you're trying to "check out" so now I do that so that I can focus on my options otherwise I will get distracted by my hair my face etc

Wait!!! No way girl!!! Once you have your hair and makeup everything will come together. I know how you feel because I'm super self conscious with how I look but you should not stress it. The picture will come out amazing with a professional and I'm sure you will look amazing. Smiley smile

We are our own worst critics! Do you have any the photos you'd feel comfortable sharing?

Thanks, ladies! I promise I'm not just looking for nice comments. I might be crazy though.... I'll post a pic below.

@futureMrsW I'm sure you're right. I also keep telling myself that if it looks good in person, that's how I'll remember it ?!

My your little avatar I can see you're beautiful! We are our harshest critics. I always feel the same way. But, if it makes you feel better a photographers job is literally to get your best angles lmao (I'm not being serious, I know that's not literally their job).

Honestly, I had the same fear. Every picture my friends ever took of me in my dress, I felt looked terrible. I was incredibly insecure about it. But honestly, on the day of, I felt so beautiful I could have modeled all day. I'm going to show you two pics so you can see what I mean and you can see the difference.

On the wedding day: (it looks like two separate people!)

There is a glow you will have on your actual wedding day, that will shine through in all of your pictures. I promise you!

You'll be fine. As long as you have a good photographer, trust him or her. Don't micromanage or beat yourself up, when you look great! Would you like me to show you people who say they weren't photogenic? Everyone is when they don't know it's coming. You'll do fine.

And definitely let the photographer know your insecurity about it! I told mine to be directive and what looks good to let me know if a pose wasn't good because I've never had photos done before.

Wow you look great in your dress! You're definitely photogenic, so I wouldn't worry if I were you.

But if you're still unsure, talk to your photographer about your concerns. You can let them know if you have a "good side" you prefer to take photos on, or if they can take photos from different angles when possible, and also let them know they can come up and touch you in order to pose you if need be. We did this with our photographer and she did her best to take photos from an angle more flattering to us and from our "good sides," she brought a stool to stand on and would gently pose me if something didn't look quite right, like if my hair was in my face or something.

I also did many poses with slightly differing looks, like smiling with lips closed and then with teeth showing, that sort of thing to have a variety in case there was one I preferred. While we didn't love every single photo (there were like 1000, we were bound to not like a few lol) we were so happy with them overall! It REALLY helped that we spoke to our photographer beforehand about our concerns.

Also, as PP have said, don't underestimate the power of an amazing hairstyle and a professional makeup application. Don't worry, you will be stunning on your wedding day!! You'll be too happy to be worried about posing and that happiness will shine through, making your beauty multiply tenfold!
