For me both are important. While both captures those precious moments, the photo holds the memories in time while the video allows me to see the changing expressions and go through the motions as the wedding unfolds. Not saying the pics can't give that feeling but the video brings it out on a grander scale. Which do you prefer?

Both are important to me. I will probably look at the pictures more often, but they don't capture the voices the sounds and movements of the day! They are 2 completely different mediums! Hearing from several people who regretted not having a videographer we decided to go with one in addition to our photographer! If I could only afford 1, I would def do photography! (I would likely have someone fill the the ceremony on a camera/tripod.

For me videography wasn’t important and we skipped that expense. Photography was really important to me though. Photographs you can display in your home and have physical albums to show future generations. With video the formats are constantly changing. My parents can’t watch their wedding video because it’s on a format that isn’t available anymore. But everyone feels differently.

If I had to pick one, I'd pick photography 100%. But it was super important to me to cut things like our floral & dessert budget by some so we could get videographer. I grew up watching my parents wedding video multiple times, and even though they are divorce I still really like having it! It's a cool thing to have. Plus I love wedding videos!

I would say photos. The ONLY reason we got a video is bc FH dad offered to pay for it. I wouldn't go into debt or bend over backwards for it. It is soo pricey.

If I had to pick I’d pick photography bc I can put those on my wall and look at them any time.

Photos! They can be used in home art, albums, photo cards, etc. TWO photographers are highly recommended. I would have loved a video, but we were already over budget.

I wanted both from the start but quickly realized that a videographer was expensive and sadly had to accept it wouldnt happen.

I love photography and enjoy looking at photos.

I really want a videographer, I’ve seen other wedding videos and get insanely jealous lol. I’ve been searching high & low for someone decently priced, Instagram has a lot of hidden talent gems which is how I found my photographer. I think it would be nice to have as a personal keepsake my DH and I can watch as we get old but most importantly watch how the day went through someone else’s eyes.

To me, they’re both important. I have legitimately put off decorating our house for 10 months because I’m waiting for our pictures, but I know that when it comes down to it in 50 years, being able to hear our vows, and see the ceremony in full color again will be magical. I am even paying extra to get all of the raw footage because I want to see and hear everything!!

That's totally up to you! For me it's photography. I already have photos everywhere in our home and can't wait to expand my gallery wall. For me, photos are something that you go back to over and over again with ease. Videography isn't important to me so we're skipping the expense. We may set up my camera in the back to capture just the ceremony, but only if it can be done in a way that won't interfere with the photographer's photos.

For me, photography 100%. We didn't even HAVE a videographer. We would much rather have an assortment of professional, gorgeous images to look back on than a video.

Thank you all for sharing. Sounds like Photography is most important and videography is a nice to have, but not a necessity. I think I will go ahead and book my photographer first and if it fits in our budget, I will book the videographer later.
