Photography & Videography

This may seem like a dumb question 😅 but how do you go about choosing a photographer & videographer?

We’re thinking of narrowing down by reviews & weddings they’ve done in the past & then request to have a one-on-one with them to go over footage & shots but I feel like we should be more picky (or more detailed) on what to ask/look for.

Also, we’ve seen several photographers list that they’ll provide a limited # of photos & then we’ve seen some that have unlimited photos post wedding (with similar prices). Do photographers do this for a certain reason? Just curious.

For photographers, look through their portfolios and also full albums from weddings they've shot. Consider pricing, photo style, and what's included in the package. Look at online reviews. Meet with them in person, and also take into account how comfortable you feel around them. You'll want to hire someone whose work you like, and also who makes you feel at ease in front of a camera. Ask about number of photos you'll receive, how many hours they'll be there, have they shot at your venue before, how long it takes to receive the photos, how you'll receive them (link online to download? Any prints/albums included?), how they get the shots they do, etc. Here is a list of questions to ask: https://www.theknot.com/content/amphtml/questions-to-ask-wedding-photographer

For videographers, ask similar questions and watch their videos from previous weddings - both short films and longer films to get an idea of what yours might look like. Also ask how many cameras they'll have setup, whether they use drone photography, how long the videos will be that you'll receive, whether you can receive the raw footage, how they work with the photographer, etc. Also meet with them in person to make sure you choose someone who you feel comfortable being around and who has good reviews.

I would meet with them both and ask these questions. https://stephaniekase.com/2017/for-brides/questions-to-ask-a-wedding-photographer-by-a-wedding-photographer/ Also, I would state up front that communication is important to you so you hope that there will be constant communication. Smiley smile You definitely someone you can work well with but above all someone professional (communicative, responsive, etc...)

At the end if you are unsure ask outside people whose pictures they like best.

We researched different photographers & videographers in our area, reviewed their portfolios, then met with them. Meeting with them will really help you decide.

I checked out my photographers pages, and their Facebook. Look at their style of photography. Is it classic, modern, fun. Try to make sure they'll listen to you. Also always check out the reviews.

I would recommend watching a few videos from Jamie Wolfer on Youtube. She is a great resource. As far as my experience hiring a photographer I looked at their portfolios and decided if I like their style then I asked them for a quote and saw what packages they offered. I wanted to make sure I got a package that gave us access to every photo not a limited amount. We also wanted an online gallery we could access to download photos and print ourselves with out an extra charge. We actually ended up getting an amazing deal because we booked on black Friday! We got a full day of coverage, with all photos, free access to all watermark free photos for $750 in CA.

Ask your friends for their recs!

A good review from a friend can often be the arrow in the right direction.
