Photography times?

Allie, on December 16, 2019 at 4:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hello!
So my fiancé and I decided we do not want to see each other until I walk down the isle (I know, I know, we’re that kind of couple photographers hate lol.) We were wondering if anyone else has done that and how it went with the wedding photography. We thought that maybe while my fiancé and his groomsmen are getting ready she could get pictures of him with his groomsmen and family, and then get photos of them while they’re in the wedding venue. Then, she will do the same with my bridal party and family. After the ceremony we figured we could get photos of him and I and the whole bridal party/family together. The wedding ceremony/reception is in the same building but with a beautiful white curtain that decides the ceremony/reception. Guests will be getting their food and drinks while we get photos. Does that sound way to complicated or do many people do this? I’m open to suggestions!

This is what we plan on doing! Basically doing all photos before the ceremony that we possibly can that don't involve FH and I seeing each other lol. Here's the part of our timeline where I incorporated photos Smiley smile

    1:15 Pre-wedding photos (bride/dad first look, bride/family, groom/family, wedding parties)
2:15 Finish photos to return to bride/groom suites
2:30 Early bird guests start to arrive
    3:00 Invite time
3:10 Ceremony Begins (to accommodate late comers if necessary)
3:35 Ceremony Ends/Guests move to reception area
    3:40 Cocktail Hour/Post Ceremony Photos
    4:40 Introduction of Bride & Groom/First Dance

I don't expect for our post ceremony photos to take the full hour, but I'd rather over-budget our time than under-budget. I also haven't gone over this with my photographer yet, so this is just a rough draft. Hope it helps!

This is pretty typical. That's what cocktail hour is meant for, for the guests to have something to do while the couple takes photos.

We didn’t have a first look. It was perfect. I have a complicated family and we still had plenty of time for family, wedding party, and couple photos during the cocktail hour.

We didn’t see each other until the ceremony either! No amount of photos was worth ruining that walk down the aisle moment for us.

We had our photographers come 30 mins before the ceremony just to get some getting ready photos. Then we took family photos, bridal party photos, and couples photos during cocktail hour. ALL that took 45 mins and we still made it to the end of cocktail hour. We got plenty of photos. Our photographers also pulled us outside a few times during the reception for some more couples photos.
And btw... not doing a first look was SO worth it. Photography times? 1Photography times? 2

We waited and it all worked out fine. We had our photographer from 12:30 - 4:30. The order of our photos were...

Hair, makeup, details and getting ready

    Ceremony

    Family/groups with both of us

    My family with me

    His family with him

    Us

    Just him

    Just me

We didn't care about having professional photos of the reception but we did have a photo booth.

This sounds great. Photographers often have their plan of how to handle the timeline. Save yourself the stress and ask them !

    We did this.

Find a spot near the ceremony to take the pictures - bonus if it's an all-in-one venue. That way you don't have to worry about travel time, and can just use the cocktail hour to take pictures.

This is a pretty typical set up for those not doing a first look! We had a second shooter so the photographers could split up the work. If you can't do that, just have the one have enough time to do the men and the women separately.
